ZX10 faster than a MotoGP bike??

In 2007 it may be a reality. It seems that they are going to limit the bikes to 4 stroke 800cc bikes. They will be hard pressed to keep them faster than the 1000 cc bikes. No more 2 strokes. Hmmm can you say NASCAR?

When this happens in 2007, I think World Superbike will be the premier class with the 1000cc bikes.

It's good move. Many are going 210 - 215 mph on the long straights. The slow ones go 200 mph.... Other than a token appearence last year by the Proton, the 2 strokes were gone anyway. At 800cc, they won't be much slower. The lap times will probably be faster because tires & chassis won't be dealing with 225 - 240 hp. Technology always finds a way. So they'll probably come in at a measly 200 hp or so.... So.... a stout 160 hp ZX10 at 450 lbs, won't be faster than a 200 hp MotoGP bike at 325 lbs...

The debate will always rage as to premier class status. But the fact remains, the perception is that the top riders ride the top class; Moto GP, just like F1. these classes should remain because they produce stunning technology that filters down to production based models. World Superbike is awesome and will remain some of the best racing on the planet. It's all good.

You really think 200 hp? 200 ccs is a bunch, 20% is a big number. The ZX10 comment was a ruse to get people to read the post. I would have thought 900ish. and noise restrictions would have been a better choice.Although the more you think about it, the more peaky the bikes will become and more like the 500s.

Sure thing. I would think the Factory Kawasaki and/or Suzuki 750 Superbikes were in the 170 - 180hp range depending on who's story you believe. And when Kaw ran the 800cc bike with Bostrom I'm sure it was in that area to keep the GSXR and RC51 in sight.

So if a "production" based motor can put out those numbers, there's no reason to not think a 800cc purpose built works motor won't put out 200 hp. Depending on the configuration of V, Inline, etc, along with bore/stroke, we'll probably see rpm ceilings raised into16000 + and who knows what else to get that number.

if it means we'll see more practically applicable development coming out of motogp as a result, then i'm all for it, just like i love that F1 limited teams to a single set of tires per race and a single enginer per season (or whatever it is). sometiems allowing no holds barred just means there's no motivation to work on anything that can be used in the real world (like tires that last more than 100miles).

but there's also a big part of me that believes the premier classes (F1 & motoGP) should be no holds barred, as in ZERO restrictions other than the basic format of the vehicle (like a ground based vehicle for F1, and a 2 wheeled ground vehicle for motoGP). all of these classes are so tightly regulated it seems stupid. soon as someone comes up with a new development that gives them a big advantage, it is banned. and don't even get me started abotu stupdity like vtwins & I4s having different max displacements

The change to a single set of tires in F1 convinced me there is no good reason to watch F1 anymore . What the hell do they think they are going to help with this rule ?

i'm sure their main motivation was keeping costs within reason (since that seems to be the motivator is almost all their decisions). but i like it cause it means better trickle down of their technology to us, as i mentioned above.
