Finally got one!
Yesterday I rode 120 miles on my Ducati 851 to Kissell's in State College, PA for a great deal on Pirelli tires. After spending 311 dollars I had the owner test ride my bike and he liked it. I ended up trading it in on the spot for an ORANGE 10 that he located in Buck's County, about 3 hours away. I got a good deal but feel crappy about the 311 dollars he did not refund. On the good side, though, he let me ride one of his bikes home and gave me about 50 dollars worth of shirts (two Triumph ones......I have a 955i) I keep his '02 Triumph 955i until my bike is ready next Wednesday.
I am going to ask him for another 150 of merchandise to offset the tire deal.
Now, what I am concerned with is OIL. What oil do they use for break in? I want to change it before the 600 mile service myself, at say 200 miles. It should have a high detergent oil, right?
This bike will be a child of mine and I want to take care of it from the start. I am quite neurotic with a new engine, I have other bikes to flog. This one can wait a while before I wind it up.
You gotta love Kawasaki.....they give you same as cash for six months!

I just bought 3 filters and a case of the plain jane kawasaki 10-40 oil when I bought mine. Changed the oil at 300, 1000, and then 2000. The bikes got about 8000 on it now and runs like a champ. Dont run anything but factory filters either. If there is a warranty issue with the motor I was told they could deny it if you run a non kawasaki filter.

Congrats! You should be very happy with the power and handling. Coming off an 851 it should feel like a rocket ship. Can't hurt to change out that oil early. My next change is going to be Kwak 100% synthetic. It is made by Motul and that is what I used in the 12 and never had a clutch problem. I don't know about that warranty issue. I know there is a law about air filters, and I thought oil filters were the same deal. But on the other hand the Kwak filters are not that expensive. I just wonder how good they are.

Kawasaki filters not expensive ? $20 for a filter is too much !!!
They cannot deny a warranty claim because you dont use an oem filter.

After a bout of heavy drinking last night with a certain oil supplier, we may have a deal on the books for a group buy on oil... I just have to wait for my hangover to wear off before I can go into details...

$20 ??? I didn't reaalize, the dealer gave be a freebee when I went in for one. They say the new K&N is a much improved filter. New media, new valving. I heard the old one was shit before, but they seem to have addressed it.

I used K&N oil filters on the 12 and now the 10. No problems.
