New Cycle World comparo - ZX10 vs MV1000 vs GSXR1

Just saw the latest issue today - ZX10 still the king!! With Doug Chandler riding, 3 sec faster than Gixxer around a track! Gixxer beats ZX10 by approx 1.5 hp, torque almost identical, Gixxer faster in 1/4 by .01 sec. That's all I can remember from a quick scan of the article. Chandler said he expected more from the Suzuki.

Something mighty mysterious about that R1..... I've tested 3 different '05 models, and they are always within 1 hp or so of the Honda, and those Honda numbers are reasonably consistent. I haven't seen one within 5 - 6 hp of either the 10 or GSXR (and those 10 & GSXR numbers are pretty high also....). But as usual, it depends also on the dyno and perameters it is set-up for. Hmm......

Well like I said, depends on the dyno they tested on and what the perameters were set to (SAE, STD, Smoothing #, etc.). Within the last few months, we've done testing on all the open class bikes this year (GSXR, R1, ZX10, CBR, MV, 999). The R1 & CBR consistently come in at 146 or so, and within 1 hp of each other. The GSXR & 10 come in within 2 hp of each other at 152 or so.

The point is, don't get too caught up in the hype like everyone did on the 10 when the big numbers came out (and most of the production bikes were 10 hp less....). They are all awesome bikes and you can't go wrong with any of them. But there is no way an R1 was putting out more than the 10 (unless it was a ringer).
