A new toy, other transistions...

I still have the 10R, nothing wrong with it... though I've been riding a lot less on the street. After watching the aftermath of a mid-canyon collision with a deer (the rider lost his foot, spent 4 months in hospital, but is now getting back in the saddle), I began to lose my desire to race in the canyons. I did a few trackdays with an old POS ZX-6E, decided that it was worth more to me as a sold streetbike, and rolled the money into a new toy.

I've picked up my new racebike. It's an '00 R6, with battlescars. I'll keep the 10R, but I'm not sure why right now - it's expensive to keep in tires, and insure. Next season I hope to get a faster (than the '00 R6) 636 - this season, with the R6, I hope to win a white plate. And any race that I look to be competitive in...

I'm planning on spending more time with my family and less on the internet - since I'll be taking a weekend a month away for the next 10 months. Plus, the bike needs TLC - cleaning, brakes serviced and fluid changed, new shock (current one is stock and raced on for four seasons), new fork valving, fork oil and fork re-springing, body repair and paint, a damper, etc. Plus I need to lose many of those stickers - I won't be running Silkolene or EBC pads, and the jury is out on the tire manufacturer until I try both Dunlops and Piriellis (the local vendors).

And, I need to step away from the Internet anyway.

You should see me post less in the next few months.

Here's the bike:

See y'all down the road a piece.

Where did you find the track bike? You're heading down the same path I wanna take this year.

Can relate to working a bike over before the season starts. I first had to prep our endurance bike so we could put it up for sale. I had just cleaned it up and swaped out motors (us keeping the better of the two).

Since it did not sell, we are going to have to run it for another season. That means having to actually go over the whole bike.

It included swaping the motors back, repacking the steering head and swingarm and going over ever nut, bolt, hose and cable... three times. The bike again "looks" like it did when we were trying to sell it, but we still have to put our racing tail section on instead of the one that uses the stock seat, as well as get the Penske recharged and the forks redone.

A whole list of parts ranging from clutch plates and a fairing stay to sprockets and exhaust packing had to be ordered to finish the preperation for this season. Not to mention boxes and boxes of various spare parts ranging from brake pads and coils to levers and rear sets. Last season, we had three other R6s that we could "borrow" parts from if the need arised during an endurance race. Because of "bike transactions" during the off season, we are down to one. With that beaing the case, we're kinda limited on what we can "borrow".

Oh yeah, I'll still have to make the numbers and backgrounds for the our old tail section and do a boat load of safety wiring.

Nice. Mine's got the motor in it, but swingarm and forks are off right now. I have had no luck finding a shock yet (used, at sub-retail prices...).

I'm about 2/3 the way through stripping the body work of paint after repairing all the 'glass damage. Thing had Krylon 1/8 inch thick in some spots... and it had a lot of repairable damage and a lot of field repairs to clean up. I'll throw the paint at it this weekend (I spent $94 on four 1/2 pints of different color acrylic enamel, I could have gotten away cheaper with a single-stage and single color).

12R, I bought it from a racer who is moving up a class at the 'local' club (5 hours away, in Deming, NM). The bike was in Tucson. What I did was attend a two-day trackday in December, and pay for the New Racer's School ($35 or so), then when the certificate came, sent CCS the paperwork. I'm now just waiting for my license to come.

I have done this also but went with a ZX9R as a 600 is to small for my 255lb in leathers frame. It has been a very good decision. I still enjoy street riding and just can't limit myself to trackdays only......
