OT: Oxygenated Fuel and Altitude Changes
Could anyone tell me if I could take a bike jetted and tuned for pump gas in Phoenix (1800 feet), and race it with little ill effect at 4100 feet without rejetting if I used (more) oxygenated fuel at the higher altitude?
It seems like it's an effect in the right direction - is the effect enough to overcome 2,000 feet (probably depends on the amount of MBTE/ethanol in the fuel).
I'm not thinking of using MR1 or U4 or anything that expensive... just adding an amount of 104+ to a 5 gal fuel jug.
I realize that the pump gas in Phoenix is already partially oxygenated with Ethanol & MBTE.
Any thoughts? Anyone have any rules-of-thumb for what works?

You're going to be running way rich from 1800 to 4100. Not lean. It will be a little sluggish, and feel weak.

Yah, that's why I want to add the MBTE or use oxygenated fuel - to partially or totally overcome that richness without rejetting. What I don't know is if it's effect is enough, or will have other adverse effects in higher concentration.

I'm at 4500' and my old zx6r ran like crap compared to sea level. The pump gas here is already oxygenated. I don't think you're going to find what you're looking for as far as power from 1800' to 4100', with or without oxygenated fuel.

You will need to remap/rejet for the bike to run right. Oxygenated fuels will help some, but simply adding fuel won't do enough. The biggest problem you will need to be concerned with is overheating. The thin air doesn't cool well, and with the mixture that far off the bike will get hot QUICK. Best to find a dyno in the area and have the bike mapped/jetted.
