(dog story )..no but I stayed at a holiday in last night

..no but I stayed at a holiday in last night
Hey all I thought I would share this little story since there seems to be alot of dog people here...

My dog wakes me up about midnight last night...
All whining and acting wierd. So I let him go out he try's to shit and can't, dry heaves a bunch and nothing comes out. Anyway we take him to the all night emergancy vet
and bam hes got bloat FFFFFF.
She say's "we will need to operate" great there goes 2k
My first question to the vet is how many of these have you done and whats the survival rate. To which she replies
"well I've never done one my self but I've watched it done". The first thing that comes to my mind is
(..no but I stayed at a holiday in last night)

Well she didn't do the surgery.
luckiley they were able to get him stable enough to get him to our regular vet this morning.
We'll see what happens now I'm dead tired but can't get that out of my head how damn funny!!
I'd post a picture but I'm retarted right now.

Hey Geek,

What kind of dog?? I know bloat is a huge problem in giant breed dogs. i.e. great danes, mastiffs. That sux man. I hope bowser makes is through. Is a pretty easy fix. You should talk to your vet about anchoring his/her stomach. That's what I had done with my dane a few years ago. THe most dangerous part is when the stomach bloats then turns over on itself. Cut's off the circulation to the stomach and stuff goes bad real fast. By the way, bloat is usually caused by to much exercise right after eating. Good luck man!!!!!! Keep us posted. The boyz and I will say a prayer tonight.

Haiko is an Akita.
and the only reason we thought of bloat was because a friend has a great dane that had this same problem...
anyway we seemed to have dodged a bullet for the time being we got him to the vet in time before his stomach fliped... so now its a waiting game.
He's a very cool dog about 90 pounds, tough as nails usualy. doesn't play well with others but I never had to worry about leaving the wife alone when he's around.
Loves to kill critters that may attack us at any moment, possums and racoons stay out of our yard.
Anyway thanks for the kind words papawheelie
