Very interesting.
On page 8, one 25 year old owner of a '02 R1 from Arkansas posts a warning about ZX-10R frames starting to crack and claims to know of one case where the crack was reported and was replaced by KMC. He adds that a short time later, the same 10R owner t-boned a truck that ran a red light and the frame split clean into two pieces. He claims the 10R owner was doing approx. 30 mph.
Even though I'm from Arkansas myself, I've not heard of any such frame cracks or crashes resulting in frames splitting apart. Not to say it has not happened... I just haven't heard about any like that happening around here.
I searched this forum for any comments on cracked frames and found this thread:
http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=19&TID=15214
No one had seen one, but some have heard about it. The thead started on 10/11 and "died" the same day with 4 total posts.
At Rich's site, it was a tad livelier.
http://zx-10r.net/forum/showthread.php?t=937&page=1&pp=10
On 6/4, a young man form Orange County, NY claimed to know of at least TWO cases and had actually seen one of the cracked frames in question. He also states that KMC replaced the one he had seen. On 6/8, he promised to post a pic of it and even after he was instructed how to do so, a pic was never seen. After generating 38 posts, the thread basically died on 6/8.
The author changed his user name on the same day he started the cracked frame thread and later disappeared from the forum after his last post on 9/29. He never mentioned the cracked frame again in any other thread and he also never mentioned anything about his friend with the replaced frame crashing.
It almost seems like it is the "Rumor That Wouldn't Die". I'm still waiting for someone to say that indeed their frame is cracked, post pics, explain the circumstances and the show us the new frame that KMC seems to handing out like candy.
On the other hand, I read all of the posts on that R1 thread and am still not quite clear on what the problem was or still is and exactly what the fix for it is supposed to be. All I know for sure is that there seems to be a lot of avatars with girls underwear and huge personal banners with their signature. Oh... and 10R frames crack.

Sroke with my dealer today and they have not heard of anything about frames replaced or crashed bikes spliting in two. The R1 forum poster is from the central Arkansas area and I think I got a line on finding out who he is.
There is also a post on sportbikes.com about a cracked frame in the central Arkansas area and I'm working on tracking that one down too. This thread started on 10/21 and the last post was on 11/4.

Have check the local bike forums and see no mention of it.

My dealer warned me that the frames were crackking. They said that they were sending metallurgists out to check the frame. They are looking to see if the crack was from wheelies. If it was, KMC will not replace it.

Checked out the sportbikes.com claim. It was the plastic part of the air intake. One down and one to go.
