My tank vents all the time during warm riding and the bike is up to temp. But it's venting up thru the gas cap...Not sucking inward?

fourth.... since KMC reads this site your chances of "faking it" and filing a warranty claim on this one are slim to none

Ummm come on...

I think you might be a bit pareniod there.

Perhaps kawi is right outside his house looking into his windows as well???

I think Kawi is a bit TOO big of a company to personally hand review each warrenty claim and then cross check them against this board and others to see if anyone fakes a warrenty claim.

I wouldn't pay $700 for a new tank without trying to get Kawi to give me a free one first.

paranoid? uh... right... believe what you want.. I know who is and isnt KMC on this site and I cant tell you that it's a small world... in fact they are aware of every warranty claim that originates and is discussed on this website.

BTW not that many "collapsed gas tanks" will pass through their hands... it's a no brainer...

You have a 49 state model....It has no emissions to the tank.
NOW.....If you were to plug the small vent to your fuel cap and ride till your fuel level got low....your fuel tank would suck in just like the one you see in the picture above.
Some various conditions such as temp or altitude may change or affect the rate of collapse......or if you were to leave it sitting on a HOT day with the vent plugged up, you would probably come back to a fuel tank that looks like a baloon.

There ya go...in a NUT SHELL.

extremelean - I once knew a woman who could remove chrome from a bumper But she surely couldn't blow up a hot water bottle

Fuel, when warmed as the tendacy to expand, right? So, a slushing fuel tank sitting above a running engine with the vent valves closed off still as enough power to crush the tank. The thought of this much suction, an engine running and me sitting behind it for 60 miles is scary. No, I'm not asking to be flamed here, just thinking. Respect abroad,

fill 3/4 and let the bike sit in the sun till it pops back in place.
It's worth a try!! just don't pop the cap too fast if it expands!

I say eat the cost. You F$%^ed up......now pay up. That simple. Like seriously, how much more power do you need. The bike has 150 rwhp. It wheelies in the first three gears. Why do you need to be messin around with the polution control to get that extra .5 hp or whatever. If your buddy is faster then you go on an atkins diet and lose some pounds. That will make you faster and you don't end up screwing up your tank and shit.

Here's what you do. Plug all holes on the tank, then take a 3/4 cubic inch peice of magnesium place in the tank, then add 3 and a 1/2 oz of hydrochloric acid, then close the lid and shake briefly, then run like hell! One of two things will happen; a.) tank will pop back to normal or b.) the tank will explode( if there is a spark then you'll get a nice light show)..... that's my 2 cents and by the way I'm not a chemist I just stayed at a Holiday Inn last night...........Just kidding DO NOT TRY THIS <----- disclaimer

I know people who fix tanks by sealing all of the holes except one and use compressed air to pop it back into original shape. since these tanks are of a complex shape it may not work perfectly, but it is worth a try! Use a pressure regulator and slowly increase till you hear it start popping into shape. ***Do this at your own risk*** CYA

No need to say it, I know I F'd up and already put a tank on order. I was just letting people know so they don't do it and trying to find out exactly why it happened. Wasn't doing it for the HP, I just figured other bikes don't have it on, why should I?

I used to fix my dirtbike tanks by filling them with water and placeing them in the freezer. The water exspands when it freezes and the dents were gone most of the time and sometimes it was not perfect but it held more gas again.

Crispin,

Guys like you really piss me off.

People need to take responsibility for their fuck ups.

I congratulate SM on doing the right thing. And DAYUM! That really, really, sucks (heh, no pun intended).

There. I said it.

And the fact that ANY service manager with half a brain would deny that claim. Unless, in true asshole form, the customer just becomes suck a dick that they push it through to get rid of an asshole customer.

Hope you don't do that.

That's just so wrong on so many levels.

But I guess lying to people just isn't that big of a deal anymore, huh?

Well Johnny boy..... if Kawi management had any smarts.... they'd put 1 supervisor over warranty claims to "track" claims.

so.......do they? Ooooooo....do you know something I don't? Share, please share!

And I'd figure Kawi corporate rather expect the dealers to weed out the bull from real claims.
