2nd>3rd not shifting under hard acceleration

Hey all,
Just curious if any of you have run into this, or if it sounds like the original shifting problem that was discussed earlier in the year by all the mags.
I've only been on a couple of rides on my 10 but it seems under hard acceleration it doesn't want to shift from 2nd to 3rd.
Not all the time but some times I've shifted popped the clutch back out and boom I'm still in second getting ready for the biggest back flip ever.
Any input would be great.
Thanks

My advice is to take it to the dealer. Get the trouble ticket number in case you need to talk to Kawasaki bout it.

its my understanding that a set of rearsets will eliminate that.....the other thing you can do is slow your shift down some....if its not a race bike whats the hurry......lol

The "problem" discussed by the mags wasnt a problem at all as they talked about an issue they had with the pre-production units.. That isnt a problem on the production units.

I'd suggest adjusting your shiftlever down 1/2 or so and see if that helps.

I did a few roll ons with my Z1000 against a ZX10R. I out weigh the ZX10R rider by more than 100 lbs. From 2000 rpms, 1st gear , roll on the throttle starts I beat the ZX10R both times. He did not catch me and pass me until I was in 3rd gear. Afterwards he said his bike wouldn't shift into second each time and that is why it took so long for him to catch me. Sounds as if some 10R's do suffer some sort of shifting problem.

I had figured before the roll ons that he would have been gone from the git go. Not so.
An R1 and a Gixxer 750 also couldnt beat me to my 3rd gear and they weren't missing shifts. But when I hit 3rd they all passed me like I was going backwards, lol.
The 10R was stock, the gixxer had a slip on, and the R1 had a full system, jetted, and who knows what else.(was an ex track bike that the owner had bought). My Z1000 has slip ons and a very nice Kawasaki "tall" windscreen :grin

Thanks for all the input,
I was planning on adjusting the shifter but I guess I wanted a second opinion before I did anything.
I ride with Sidi boots and had trouble getting used to them on my F4.
The different riding possition of the 10 may be part of it?
I have pleny of time to tincker with this thing this winter.
Oh well thanks again.

I've experienced the missed shift when I'm bangin gears ( or tryin at least). I was just trying to do it too fast and didn't completely shift. It went to a false neutral sometimes. Boy does that sound like shit. Rev, grind, pop into gear.

I've done that tons of times on my f4.I actualy thought that false nutral was just a honda problem ;-)
On the 10 I'll be @ 10,000 rpm shift then release the clutch and boom I'm still @10,000 and climbing cause I wacked it...

never had a problem.

I shift at full throttle all the time

it is either user error or something wrong with your bike

good luck

It's not the bikes fault, it's my own. Tryin to hard to shift fast, more like shift half ass. I just have to adjust the shifter down a bit, or get rearsets.

You can download one here: http://zx-10r.net/forum/showthread.php?t=990
On page 2 the post from Xusia dated 6-17-04 is a live link. It is a large PDF file and I think you need a password. Somewhere in that thread you'll find all the info you need. If I can do it, so can you.

I have had issues with my bike not shifting while over 10 grand.....the problem is not completely fixed from the preproduction bikes like one might think. there are way to many people still ahving issues for it to be rider error. Cycle world did a story on the ZX10 and had the same issues with it in one of their bike comparisons. They contacted Attack Racing which told them that they had the same issues and that is was cleared up when they installed the Attack rearsets.

Adusting the shift rod may in fact help for some, it did not for me. Its the cheapest(free) way to correct the problem if it works for your bike.)

Now my next question, who has a black gas tank for sale for a 10???

This is why I asked. The cycle world article(I think it's the june Issue)stated the attack rearsets didn't fix the problem until they replaced some thing else can't recall what it was exactly. I'll read the article again and post what it was.
