Need help to win FL Street Races

Hello all.

Here is the deal. I live in flat ass straight Florida. I love as well as bought my bike for handling. Unfortantly besides a couple of off / on ramps there are not many turns to be had here.

I ride with a bunch of shit talking guys on Sundays. Everyone has 1000's and they are all worked and lowered.

This past Sunday I raced about 5 different bikes and lost to them all. The 10 should have beat them all as it is lighter and has more power. The deal is that all the bikes that I raced were lowered and geared.

I just ordered new gears -1 front, +1 rear. I also have a Micron and PC3.

I need to lower my bike if I am going to put these guys in their place.

To lower the rear is easy I just need the links (where can I buy them at?)

But what about the front? I used to strap my Z1000 down but it was scary to ride in the street like that.

When I first got my 10 I was screwing around with the triple clamps and dropped the clamp down about 3 inches by mistake.

So here is my question.

The front and rear need to be dropped the same amount, correct?

So if I drop the rear 2 inches should I drop the front forks down 2 inches as well?

I would only do this for my Sunday rides as I hate a lowered bike.

I just want my 10 to be the fastest bike out there.

Thanks for your help!

Where are you located? Im guessing the bikes have more than meets the eye....hehe

If its South FL.... you better get out the wallet.

You can drop the front without dropping the rear.... just dont get to crazy.
THe bike will turn in quicker with lowered forks. You can drop the front 2" and the rear 1" without much problem.

Lowering it is only going to help you on the launch. If you want to be fast....take it from a 50mph roll and spray that fucker.
Everyone has their own race (roll, stop, etc). Pick yours and stick with it.

yea I live in South Florida.

Big money down here.

All the bikes have something done to them.

One guy on a GSXR has a longer swingarm.

You're better off spending your mod money on practice time at the local drag strip instead of buying more horsepower. Get your skills in order first, then add more power.

Now that's some advice you can "bank" on.............

Safety equipment, a couple good rear tires, some clutch sets, some gearing and lots of practice and fun at the drag strip will net you MUCH more benefits and race wins on the street than will another costly 20 horsepower.

I am not looking for more Horsepower.

I just want to hook up better.

The 10 Wheelies like a bitch and just want to control that some more.

I think I have enough power, I just need the bike lower.

Try the simple things first.

If you run with the 9/10ths guys.... pack a lunch and learn something.

That would be great but I would only want that if you could move it between 'stock' and 'extended'

The one I saw for a 10 went from 'extended' to 'really extended'

Just lower it and gear it properly. Practice makes perfect, forget the other mods until you work on the skillset. Like I said you'll do better with practice than mods, it's all rider. There are plenty of guys not wheelie'ing to sub 9.30 ETs on stock ZX10Rs @ stock wheelbase.

Study the technique demonstrated by Norman Jackson:

Dude I have watched that video so many times that I have it memorized.
What that video really teaches me it to use the clutch. I have spent my whole driving life trying to drive fast and not blow clutches. It comes from being 16 with a Mustang GT running Juice. Whenever I blew a clutch it meant my car sat forever while I tried to get the money to fix.

I never slip any clutches. I need to get off of that.

I wish Moroso was less crowded. I have never taken my 10 there but I have been there a few times with different cars or my Z1000. I just can't stand running once and then waiting an hour for another run. I would rather stop light drag than go to Moroso.

I wish they would have a bike noght or something there. I would love to rent the track out one night but I need like at least 10 people for that.

I am going to do it. Today I am going to go out and just slip the shit out of the clutch and see waht that does.

just dont launch over and over and over without letting the clutch pack cool
down a little. its not that hard to fry the clutch in one of these things.

jasonc32amg, about that trooper "getting killed" he was in violation of at least two but
probably more florida state statues. so he pretty much killed himself. i feel bad for his family and stuff. thats why we have rules to protect the lives of our law officers and more importantly our public. unfortunatly officers of the law find that the rules dont apply to them. too many innocent people have perished cuz of over zealous cops dissobeying the rules. Get a friend to video your 330' so you can evaluate them afterward. Make 3 passes, let your bike cool and evaluate the video. Make one change at a time until it becomes second nature, then move on to the next area of improvement.

I agree 100%... but I don't think that argument would sway a judge...

Last time I went to Moroso it wasn't bad. If you can get there early on Wed. it's all good.
