tailight problem.
Alright I have a weird deal going with the tailights. the 2 bottom left hand leds go out and the rest stay on. I hit the brake lights and boom they work again even when i release the brakes. So sometimes the bottom 2 work, and sometimes they dont. When I hit the brakes the bottom 2 come on with the rest of them. When i release the brake lights they all work fine again but then later they go out. Its blown a fuse about 300 miles ago and the whole tailight went out so i replaced fuse and it worked fine until my buddy behind me noticed the bottom 2 leds sometimes flicker off. cant be wiring cause the bottom 2 leds wouldnt just flicker. Im thinking the tailight is shaken loose maybe. seems to do it on rougher roads. how do those leds work back there, i figured they would all go out.

under warranty........take it to the dealer....chances are the printed circuit board has issues....That would be a taillight assembly replacement.
Should be a no brainer as long as you havnt modifyed it.
good luck

I, for one, am very interested in the failure of LEDs in general.. a very good friend of mine has spent the last 20 years specialing in LEDs and fiber optics as light sources. He has rather enormous contracts with major corps... I talked to him about a month ago and he told me that LEDs were "out" and that he couldnt even get any major companies to look at them anymore.. .apparently all of the LEDs that they purchased (in various types of installs) 1 to 2 years ago were now failing. He attributes this to the simple fact that an LED is an indicator light.. that was it's intended purpose and design (ie on a dashboard, in a rack of equipment etc etc...).. NOT as a "source" of illumination...
I'm not surprised that the LEDs in a tailsection would fail... I am surprised that we havent heard more about it... give it one or 2 more seasons perhaps?

I am surprised about the comment on LEDs reliability... Haven't LEDs been used in traffic lights for years?

Is there more of a problem with the LED's or the circuit boards?

the LEDs were never meant to be as bright as they are .... they achieve this by overdriving them. They arent as reliable as you think, and they certainly aren't the be all and end all of lighting. Massive light output from an LED creates large amounts of heat etc... just not that efficient a light source...
read "indicator light" not "light source" when you think of LEDs. I'm waiting for my LED expert friend to call me.. I want him to kick in on this topic as he has had years of experience dealing with the things.
