Heh heh......I believe you are right...... You do have me thinking of upgrading. A couple of days ago I accidently sent all my picture folders from the Zoom Browzer EX that were in " My Pictures " to the Recylce Bin and emptied it. I went to the Zoom Browser later and the pictures were gone. ( THOUSANDS of pictures.....my son's birth......my daughters karate tournament ect.....) I called Canon and they told me the Zoom Browser software used the XP operating system to store the pics........

I am beside myself swft........those pics are priceless. I have ordered 2 kinds of undelete software but I don't know if it will really work............any suggestions?

WARBIRD.......( sniff........)

Sorry to hear about your files. Here is a link that might help. Tucows has a lot of utilities listed.

Yes I emptied the recycle bin.

Ground Zero.......I will check those out now. Thank you...

My limited knowlege on this subject tells me once you empty the "bin", the files are overwritten to 0. You couldn't recover those files then could you?

The files are not overwritten when the recycle bin is emptied, The reference to the files are just removed.

Not yet Ground...........I bought 2 different brands of software........WinUndelete and Digital Picture Recovery. I am not sure if I am even using it right. I mean.......it's pretty self explaining....but it seems a lot of my recovered files ae damaged or corupted.

if you are in the process of trying to recover the files ensure that you have disabled any automated disk utilities ie: defrag or scandisk as those will most certainly elimitate any chance of recovering the pix...

I also loaded the undelete software to my "D" hard drive. (I have 2x 250GB hard drives) the pics are (were) on the "C" drive. I really think they are lost.......but will keep trying. Thanks............

Oh man, that's a terrible situation warbird. Sorry to hear it!

FYI [for future reference, since it probably wont help you now ] when something like this happens, if you dont have recent backups of the data, one should immediately curtail or entirely cease [and shutdown] the use of the computer in question. This will reduce the risk of any disk storage activity reusing some of the now empty sectors which used to hold the missing file data. [it's not just disk "utilities" that will kill you - ALL file saving activities... like your internet cache, email... word, excel and so on]

Only use the machine following the bad "event" to attempt recovery, and only if you dont have another machine available into which you could mount your drive. It is preferable [strongly recommended] to mount the drive into another machine, and run recovery tools from it's system drive.

If you have a spare drive available, take a drive image snapshot before attempting recovery [as a final backup, which also gives you multiple "cracks at it"].

I hope you're able to recover some of it at least. Good luck!
