zx-10r and yzf r1 dyno results
I was in waterloo ontario tonight. We were at roxannes ( a local strip club). They host a bike night every thursday. Well they had a dyno there. My first time there. Watched an 04 636 make 98 hp. Well we thru my stock 10r up there for a go....(he would only do hp because he couldn't find a tie down to do torque...)first pass was 146.5 hp 72.92 'f,29.08 in-HG,humidity 62% 2nd pass 72.45'f 29.08/62% and made 144.32 hp.
Well we went in side and had a drink (pop) and when we came out they just finished an 04 r1. It made 140.4 hp. That was its best run.

Cool. But a "tie down" has nothing to do with the torque reading. He may have been pulling yer leg.... He simply did not want to hook up the tach lead. On the 10, it's easiest to get to it under the seat. But even that can take a little extra time. Trying to get to the spark plug lead requires the middle fairing to come off. Not pretty at a parking lot event. B/W wire and you're ready to read torque and/or fuel curve.
At a lot of dyno shoot outs (including mine), it just simply takes too much time to find the tach lead and/or get to a plug wire. So we just read what most people care about anyway at those kinds of events; pure hp!

I put my 10r on that same dyno with the same result back in may, 146.5 hp. There was a 04 R1 there that day but with a slip on and it made about 150hp and mine made the most power for a stock bike.

He might mean was it set at "SAE", or "Standard", etc. Possibly also what was the "smoothing" set at. The numbers can vary substantially, at least when "compared" to other dyno readings. It's just a little easier to compare figures when all perameters are setup the same. But you'll still get different readings somewhat on different Dynojet dynos; close, but different.
Both of them should be stated on your dyno sheet/print-out.

Dyno numbers are really only acurate for comparing performance gains on the same machine. I have seen 10-15 hp difference in dynos using the same bike/mileage/conditions. They are great tools for mapping as well.

all I am saying is that on that night on the same dyno within 30 min of each other the 10 made more hp . I am just glad it was that way instead of vice versa....it felt goooooood to be top dog I know it doesn't mean much ...but it felt damn good

Dyno's have software as you probably are aware, these can be altered to read any number you really want. Did my bike on a dyno dynamic dyno which reads lower than a dynojet 250, but as the operator said he could change that very easily but it would'nt be fair to those that will come back to perhaps remap there bike, obviously no gauge to go by.

I really have to wonder about all those suckers who went ga ga when they saw the underseat pipes on the 04 R1. They then proceeded to trade in their 02/03 R1s without riding the new one.
Only to discover a big gaping hole where there's supposed to be 1000ccs of midrange pull.....LOL! Suckered in by magazine hype.
My next bike could be a ZX-10R or Gix1000, simply because they're using longer stroke motors. And I heard that the new Gix is going to lose some midrange too.

Also wonder how they like that broiling feature of the pipes on the seat of their pants. More than one owner here in S. FL has told me they were introduced to that sensation on some of our 95 degree 90% humidity days.

Yup, I think it was also mentioned in the press ride in Australia? Whatever happened to keeping the weight low and centralized? I guess that theory has been shelved in favor of style.
