Shipping question

If I needed to ship my ZX-12 from MN to Georgia, what shipping company would you recomend? How do I go about the shipping part? Do I strap her to a pallet and say come pick it up? Any and all help/knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dread

I would get an actual motorcycle crate from a dealer. It doesn't have to specifically be for a ZX12. You can make almost any open class brand work. It will just make it ton's easier for you. Get the crate cover for it too. Most dealerships will simply give you both of these, since they throw them out anyway. Drain the gas, disconect the battery. Oil/Coolant should be fine. Then just use 4 sets of tiedowns (two in front, two in back) and ship-er-away.

I've found that you don't have to use any particular trucking line. Daylight, Bullet, ABF, etc. Those are some with decent prices. I would think you'd be looking in the $300 area, something like that. I ship with them all the time for bikes going to shows and such.

There are also motorcycle shipping companies. They will come to your house and put it on a crate for you, deliver the bike to where you want. All you have to do is call them and drain the fuel. Very safe. I've used these guys several times. A little more than Kerry's method, but way less stuff for you to have to deal with.

If you are an AMA member go to their page and check under 'member services' to get the AMA rate.

You can also get a rough estimate on their web site.

I shipped a bike from Minesota to Arkansas for $400.

That sounds even better. My local dealer wants $100 for a crate. They said the wooden ones are pretty tore up by the time they pull a bike out of it so they only have the steel ones that the BMW bikes come in. But they don't have a cover. Do you recall the name of the company you used? If you have shipped from MN, do you still live there? Maybe we should hook up for a ride or 20.
