Poor customer service Here's a load of BS; I bought my ZX10 while living in Nebraska and have since moved to Tennessee. Upon calling my local dealer and informing him that there was a recall that I needed addressed (he knew nothing about it) he checked and set up an appointment for me. Not 20 minutes later he called back saying that I would have to contact the location that I purchased the bike at since only the bikes bought at his dealer could be serviced for the recall there. Mine is within the "BAD" range on the serial numbers so I know it will need looked at. Kawasaki is doing some bad business here. Has anyone else had this same treatment?

well if you went a couple hundred miles to shop for cheapest deal for 10 then go there and they will have to fix the prob.
I wouldnt service a recall for a buyer that went elswhere to buy bike and then came to me for service. Its something that it has to do with good relationship with dealer not to save few $

It wasn't to save money, I was living in Nebraska and the drive is roughly 1200 miles from where I live now. I am not knocking the local dealer; I am criticizing Kawasaki for not making their recall part more accessible. To service only the first bikes sold is a risky business. What if people start killing themselves because of the front wheel failing? I am sure that they could locate more wheels than just one for each dealer at this time.
posted August 15, 2004 03:38 AM
Maybe your selling dealer could order your wheel for you and have it shipped to your new local dealer? I had seen this problem in the past when I was working at a Suz/Kaw dealership and the Busa was recalled for the cam chain. I think initially it will be hard for you to get service but it should be easier in a few weeks (I would think). It is not out the norm for dealers to look out for their own customers especially early in a recall but your situation is a little different. You are definietly in a different boat and may end up contacting Kawasaki customer service before it is over. GOOD LUCK . . .

No matter where you bought the bike the dealership should fix it for you.Kawasaki pays them for warranty and recall repairs. You would think this dealership would try to EARN your service business and future purchases.

Post the name and phone number of this "idiot" dealer. Stupid fucks.
You hand them an easy money making item and they say take a hike.
This is EXACTLY why I dont patronize my local area dealers. Fuck em all.

This is the mentality your dealer hypnotized you with???
A recall is a fucking recall. End of fucking story. This is not some bullshit "we didnt get a commission so we're not obligated" issue. Besides the fact that the dealers make very little on the bikes at full fucking retail.
Service and parts is where the gravy is. The issue with most dealers is that they have a bunch of monkeys in the service bays that couldnt make book time if the clocks could be turned back.

The dealer he bought the bike from is where Kawi will ship the wheel.
djzxr, call your Nebraska dealer, and have them ship the wheel to the local dealer. The local dealer gets the labor, the Neb dealer gets the shipping charge, unless they ship COD...
If either dealer gives you shit, call Kawasaki North America at the Santa Ana number at the bottom of the recall notice (866 802 9381).

I had a similar problem. I drove to toronto to buy my 10 because the local dealers sales guys are assholes. I contacted kawasaki canada and tried to get them to foot the bill for a tow. Since where I bought the bike is like 60 miles from my house. I worked the guy on the phine as hard as I could. He wouldn't budge. Then I said there was a dealer closer but I hadn't bought the bike there. They told me to take my bike to the closest dealer and if that dealer had a problem with fixing my bike that I should get them to call him and he would sort it out and make sure they would do it . But I still have to take the bike myself...no free towing.

I would get the name and number of this dealer and then call kawasaki directly and tell them you have been rejected service. Kawasaki will also tell you to return the bike to the original dealer but these are special circumstances. I think you can get Kawasaki phone #s on buykawaski.com or it may be on the warrenty letter.

Turbo Blew getting back to piece of shit dealership. We have them dealers in NC for sure. We have a kawasaki dealership who doesn't even have a service department and when you call them to get something done for service they tell you they are 3 months out so you will go somewhere else. Numerous people has called Kawasaki and they want even do anthing about it. That Dealership is Lee's Kawasaki in Thomasville, NC. Call and bitch at Kawasaki.

Recall can be done at any dealer......... It just may take a little longer as each dealer is receiving one wheel per unit sold.
posted August 15, 2004 03:54 PM
extremelean>>> if this is the case, does Kawasaki really think people aren't going to be riding their bikes? Does the recall release them from the liability if a wheel is to fail? I just don't understand why, if they have my NEW address already, they can't ship the wheel, MY WHEEL, to the nearest dealer. This would make sense if the problem is as severe as the letter makes it out to be.

The point XL makes - is that any dealer can do the service. Since your local dealer did not sell you this particular bike, he won't be getting a wheel for your bike. Why would he? Obviously the dealer you actually purchased the bike from will get a wheel.
So....... It simply sounds like your new local dealer is giving you bad info. Perhaps you should go up the chain of command at the dealership. Or do as suggested by kz2zx. Contact the number on the bottom of the recall and let them know whatz up. The dealers should most definetly be working together, especially in your circumstance. Your "Bad customer service" issue appears to be with your new local dealer and/or dealer you purchased the bike from; not KMC.

dj... I too would like to see the name and number of that dealer who refused to order you a wheel posted online here. Bottom line this is a recall and a safety issue.. it has nothing to do with where you bought the bike... I would expect KMC to change my wheel no matter where in the world I was...
if that dealer isnt willing to change your wheel and if KMC isnt willing to back you on (which I can't imagine will be the case.. I suspect it's some crappy dealer at the center of this issue) your basic rights as a consumer who has purchased a product which they have found is unsafe and defective then we have a serious serious problem here.
Please post the info asap so that we can open this can of worms up some more...
BTW... call KMC customer service and begin a formal complaint about your situation so there is a paper trail.
I'm getting angry just reading this. .... KMC best get this straightened out and have a word with their dealers because this information is hitting right at ground zero for everyone to read.
There should be a penalty of somesort for dealers who behave like that... What they are doing is no different than companies who price gouge during disasters....

Someone else posted on another Kawi board that his dealer decided to use their first wheel allotment on one of their unsold 10s. He's really ticked about it to say the least.

and then my comment would have been, I would have bought my bike from you, provided you gave me the consumer the best deal I could get, adn could get the EXACT vehicle in the EXACT color I wanted....seeing as you couldnt....I went elsewhere.
I bought my bike in Maryville TN, I live in Kentucky, some 4.5 hours away.....my local dealer has been working with me on this matter and is got me slated for the first wheel that comes in...seeing as I was the first customer to inquire about it. And the others will go on a list in which they will get the wheels in the order that they come in....If he needs to go to the dealer that I bought the bike at in which to get a wheel that is his issue, how he performs his customer service is not important to me, only that he does.....and he is.....any dealer that wont assist you isnt worth spending money at for you, and ALL OF the people that you know that ride.....JMO

I am not impressed with their idea of a "Motorcycle ATV Supercenter". I will take the bike to Memphis to have it serviced. There is a dealer there (Kawasaki of Memphis) that I have dealt with many times in the past that backs the BRAND that it sells by 110%, regardless of where it was purchased.
I would like to thank all of you on the board for your help and advice, it is good to know that there is support within the ranks.
