New Bike for wife.................

This might not be posted in the right area. If not move it.
I want to know if anyone has ever ridden a Ninja 250 ? I am wanting to get my wife her first bike. I want something that will keep up on the highway and easy for a begginer to learn to ride. She doesnt want a cruiser style bike. She likes the New Ninjas, except they dont offer a BLACK one.....Thanks for any input.

We've looked at them also (wife & I). My opinion is if she's 5'4" or taller then go with the 500r. If she's under that then the 250 might be a good choice. My understanding is that they're both good beginner bikes.

I spent 11 months riding one. They're great bikes. Easy to ride, physically small and easy to manage, and light. They're great to learn on.

They handle really well too, for what they are.

They are capable of around 106mph give or take a bit, so they will easily cope with freeway/highway traffic duties. I think they can do about a 14 sec 1/4 mile pass, so they accelerate ok for a fourstroke 250 and they're fast enough for virtually any traffic situation.

From memory they do about:
37mph @ 14,000rpn in first gear
55mph @14,000rpm in second
70mph @14,000rpm in third
etc.

They are tough bikes too. They'll take a lot of abuse. I knew a guy (a big guy) who used to wheelie his all the way through first gear, all the time. It was not pretty (the wheelying, that is), but the bike never complained and still ran really well when he traded it in after 10 months or so of this type of treatment.

They're good fun to learn to ride on.

I would not waste my money on a 250. My wife bought our 10r. The salesman almost sh^& when I told him she was riding it home. I ride the 10 and my wife rides my 02 6r. Anything less is a glorified dirtbike. Buy her a 600. She will be able to keep up and they are light enough for her to handle it. You can also adjust the ride height to make it easier for her to move around in parking lots and such. Also my wife's friend is 5'2" and found our 02 6r low enough to ride.

My girlfriend and I were looking at the 500 & the 250. We decided on the 250 because it only weighs 308 lbs. dry, compared to the almost 400 lbs. dry of the 500. If she dumps it, she needs to pick it up. I got on it before I let her buy it, and it did pretty well, 60 mph between stop lights without taking it to redline. My recommendation is to get the 250, let her get down the basics of riding and be comfortable in traffic and around town. Then buy a her a 600.

I would recommend, whether you get a 250 or 500, to buy a used one. It is only worth buying used, and if your wife ever wants a bigger bike, then you can prolly sell it without the loss you would have on a new bike.

I would recommend the 500 just cause of the additional power that she will be thankful for after a couple months of riding.

Just my two cents...

I would say the road is the wrong place for a first bike...But.....If you must go to the road I would go with what has already been said...(the ninja 250 or 500)
