front sprocket nut - help please

has anyone been able to undo it?

I've got a 16t sprocket to put on but can't get the nut off. The spocket I have is no thicker than the teeth.

Will it be the right sprocket or is there a raised surgace where it fits onto the bike side of the shaft? (I haven't seen the other side of the original sprocket yet)

Also, what is the sensor for?

Use an air impact driver. Will be off in seconds. Also you do not have to take the back wheel off just loose and slide forward. That gives the chain enough slack to pull it over the front sprocket. If you dont have airtools. go to your local gas station take the side cover off b4 you go and have them loosen up the bolt for ya. Tighten it up enough to get home and then you can get it loose again with your tools. The new sprocket does not have rubber on the sides like the stock doesnt look the same but should work if splines line up and the same thickness. Good luck

Just remember DO NOT loosen the CS sprocket while the bike is in gear.

thanks for that. I was worried it had a left hand thread. I'll give the rattlegun a go.

Cheers.

FYI, the front sprocket (CS) nut is 27mm, if you are going to use an impact wrench you should use a 6pt impact socket. Sears has em for $11 or use a
1-1/16" 6pt socket which is an even better fit. You can round the nut off with a 12pt socket and impact (air) wrench.

Yah, what he said. I picked up a set of metric impacts for $40 from Harbor Freight, nice to have a big assortment of sizes.

Hi all. The job is now done. We got it off with a 12pt, all I could find.

I had to assist the gun with a big wrench. That was one extremely light nut.

The difference with the 16t sprocket on the front is amazing. It pulls away from lights much easier now and when you open it up it just keeps on pulling all the way to redline in 6th.

Definately 30 bucks well spent.

I'm waiting for my 16 front, and 40 rear, and Speedo Healer. That combo should be nice, and nasty. I'll post my impression when I get the goods..
