I picked up my 10 saturday, brought it home in the truck, and the fork seal was leaking when I got it out of the truck....tuesday it will go back to the dealer so he can order parts and I will take it to them when the parts come in to fix it...talk about pissed off....

But man is it a power house.....

Lord, How bad is it leaking? Rings of oil or just a trickle? My left fork has had a trickle show up very infrequently. Seems to have stopped now. I'm from the old school and always believed when a seal was blown you knew it immediately. Called my dealer and explained problem to the service mgr. He said it could just be excessive assembly oil/grease and it should subside. After 1500 miles, it does seem to be stopping. Hate to see your brand new ride taken apart by a dealer if in fact it's not a blown seal.

If it were me and my fork tube had any oil on it from an obvious seal leak then its gonna get addressed as they either seal (preventing any leak or oil residue ) or they don't!!! its not a 'well lets wait and see if its this or that' kinda deal. If in fact a minor amount of assembly oil shows up it doesn't take weeks or hundreds of miles to find its way out from under the dust seal.

JNM, I understand what you are saying, and I have seen them stop leaking on occasion as well....but this is now my track bike as I traded my 6RR in on it...so i cant wait and HOPE it clears up...and I really dont want the dumbass dealers touching my bike...but I paid for the warranty, so I might as well use it....it just pisses me off that the freaking thing had 1 mile on it and was leaking.....just glad i seen it now, and not while I was on the track......

If you wipe the oil off the fork, it will be wet again in a few minutes.....but it only seems to leak when there is pressure on the fork, like when you ride it, or its strapped down. It dont leak if the bike is just sitting there......

BD,My "seal leak" is not obvious, hence the dilemma. As I said in my post the local service mgr. of twenty years felt it was not a bad seal. I took the bike out yesterday and purposely loaded the front end at every opportunity and gave the front end a rigorous workout. Basically I beat the hell out of it. Not a drop. There has never been a ring of oil, and the trickle has occurred maybe three times. I hear what you're saying, but I'm still convinced it's not a blown seal. I had a blown seal on an old CB1100F and that was very obvious as were the ones on some of my old motocross bikes (CZ, Bultaco).
Lord, Mine does sound different than yours; there is never a coating of oil, and I can't get it to repeat just by applying pressure to the forks. My 10 is not my racebike, I race an SV650. Since your's sees track duty, I believe you are doing the right thing. I just hope you are bringing in the bad fork only and not the whole bike. Only unless I absolutely had to would my entire bike go to a dealership.

being mechanically challenged the whole bike will have to go to the dealer.....but I have a very good friend that works for the dealer and he will ensure that the bike is not mitreated or abused.....

sometimes it is enough to to alter the inner seal which holds the oil from leaking.
If the seal is not blown but it is leaking just take the spring out of the inner seal and cut the lenght little bit then put it together and install over the seal.

It works good

hey 44.....the bike is brand new, just picked it up on saturday....THEY WILL FIX IT RIGHT ! I will NOT settle for some half ass stuff on a new bike, espicially on a bike that will see the track...I like my health way too much to do that....I might do somehting like you talk about on an old dirt bike, but not something I am gonna use and abuse......JMO though

hells dark lord, you are definetely right but unfortunately it happens. I just wanted to share my experience. Once I installed a brand new seal to my old zx-7 and it was leaking oil. I took the seal out and there was nothing wrong with it so I tightened the seal spring and rode it for almost 2 years.
