is it time Bear buys a banner ad or takes out a post in the advertiser's section like all the other manufacturers have done? It's pushing the limits just a bit... not terribly fair to all of the companies who support this site and keep it online.

Nothing more from me! Bear never mention selling them or a price. He was just showing what he was doing for his 10 and it is my fault that "Selling" them and the Mention of "MONEY" was used. I apologize for that and you know that I have been careful about the other products also and just slipped up here.(If they work as advertised), would a set for your bike be considered as "paying the piper"?

Actually Vince, prices were mentioned earlier, and then removed by the authors...

As for a set for my bike, that's not the point... the site costs money to run... many companies are paying to keep it afloat and it isnt fair to them when other companies advertise whilst they foot the bill.

Come on now... you're not new here .. does this REALLY need to be explained to you?

BTW .. the stacks look cool and have received many excellent reviews ... but remember that freek and I have to remain accountable to our sponsors.

play fairly please.... we're being put in a difficult position.

for that matter it still escapes us as to why a company wouldnt simply use the vendor's section and kick in $5 and then talk all they wanted about their product...

I do know the rules and how many times have you ever seen an "Apology" or me say I was wrong ever? I actually took no offense and feel the posting was "ONLY" because nothing else like this is being done right now and hope is hope. The Offer? I do not know how much it cost to sell something by a manufacture but I would think the cost of these stacks would / should cover it and it was from that view! Barter as opposed to money!

Oh, and speaking of the site...When will there be a reasonable expectation of updates to the site? Ie; new software, new capabilities?

actually swft, the software we are currently using has more features than many of the other versions we have been looking at. A reasonable expectation of when the site would be updated? Well... since it functions seemlessly and everyone here has full time jobs and no one who runs this site receives a penny from it... I would say the site receives the technical attention our combined free time allows... Since we dont crash that would let the end user conclude that we are certainly doing more than enough to keep the site operating...

As for the cost of a banner ad, companies are free to contact us with regards to that at any time, just like it says on our own banner which is in rotation at the top of the screen, and is also clearly stated in the main forums index...

I know you must be bored and trying to make it to 8000 posts, but why not try thread-jacking a different topic.

vince.. .bartering doesnt pay for bandwidth.

Barter does stop the Band width buyer from spending money on something else so he has more to buy the Bandwidth with? I have cleaned up my post.

After watching this thread in all it's evolutions and wondering if it's violates the advertising policies or not, I have chosen to simply lock it and not transfer or delete it. At least for now. That way, for those that feel it is simply and solely "informational", it still remains on the forum.

I personally do not see this thread in it's current state, or any of it's previous incarnations, as being "solely informational". IMHO, the introduction of new products by it's manufacturer via forum posts, wether it is currently available or not, is promotional in nature. Plan and simple. By definition, promotion of one's product is nothing but for the purpose of generating sales... thus advertising. Having personally spent over a quarter of a century in the advertising and marketing industries, it's really not that tough of a call.

I also do not see Pierre as just "one of the guys" making these in his garage on the weekends. Bear Engineering is a manufacturer. He might be it's sole employee, but he is still a manufacturer of aftermarket products and has a distribution network of vendors, no different that of Muzzy or Jardine. Maybe not as extensive, but a professional network all the same. Hardly a "backyard" operation. Even if he was such a "backyard" operation (how many of us have regular access to dynos and milling machines in our backyards?), his company has felt that it is beneficially to purchase advertising, in support of and on other forums... thus the precedent has been set. Not by me or the administrators here, but by Pierre himself.

I have nothing personal again Pierre or Bear Enterprises. The point of it being fair to Pierre or those that wish to purchase his products pales in comparison to the obligations to those manufacturers who actually do support this site and all of it's forums. None of which would even be in existence if it was not for that very same support. This site and all the wealth of information contained in it's forums would have been history long ago. Making this diatribe moot. Again, a no brainer here. I do not know what the ad rates are here, but I am sure that they are reasonably, if not considerably cheaper with the rates of the other sites his company has chosen to advertise his products on. That would be an issue that Bear Enterprises and the administrators of this site would have to negotiate.

Since it is obvious that Bear Enterprises has many satisfied customers on this forum, as well as other forums here, I don't think it unreasonable that he attempt to generated even more satisfied customers by purchasing some level of advertising to both inform and promote the sale of his products. Members that have purchased his products and wish to sing the praises of them are still and will always be free to do so and can post ad nasium to that effect.

If an injustice is being done here, I feel it is to those manufacturers who have chosen to support this site and aided in it's continued existence and growth (i.e. the addition of this very forum). If Pierre wishes not to be part of that growth, as he has done with other sites, so be it. That would be his choice, not mine.
