problem: oil pressure light -on when wet?
I just got back from a bike trip in the mountains (British Columbia) and have noticed a problem with the oil pressure light.
We travelled 1600 miles in 5 days and 3 of those days were wet, lots of rain, lots of wet roads. On each of the "wet" days the oil pressure light would "start to glow" after the first hour, meaning it was vary faint to see, and not "full-on". The more rpms inflicted on the beast, the brighter it would come on, but never full-on. After 10 minutes it would go out again. This happened about 4 times each of the wet days.
We checked the oil levels, checked for obvious leaks and found nothing. We talked to a mechanic at a kawi-dealer in Kelowna and he figured it was electrical, probably a bad-ground. The problem did not occur on the last 400 miles.
I never noticed any difference in performance.
Anyone else experience this "anomaly"? Any suggestions other than taking it to the dealer and letting them "guess" the solution?

Happend to me a couple times. I always seem to find the rain. It has not caused a problem 4 me yet. As a matter of fact The last few rains it hasnt happend. It may have stopped after brake in? I was told it is the sensor to the oil pressure sending unit down low on the engine. The fix is calking around sensor. I am not to worried about it seems to have gone away. Later

I used dielectric grease in the connector. Any real parts store has it. just make sure it's
totally dry!

i was just talking to my dealer today about it becuz i rode mine on some wet roads yesterday and mine came on slowly and then went away and came back on again just like yours did.my dealer said not to worry about it unless it stays on. i was wondering also i never paid attantion before but when you turn your key on what lights are on. mine is neutral and the oil light. i never noticed that being on before you start the bike, but i never paid attention either.i am just wondering if everyone elses bike has those lights on at first also.

I'll second the dielectric grease. Pep Girlz usually has it. Should cure the problem.

thanks for the info. I still haven't looked at the bike since I got back 'cause my ass hurts too much. Tomorrow after I wash it I'll look into it.

I had the same problem the day after I picked the bike up in the wet. Took it to the dealer and he could'nt replicate the problem, however he washed my bike for me. When I was riding home it came on so I turned around to show them. They saw it and ordered me a new solenoid/sending unit. Put the new one and have not had problems since and I rode through a couple of mad showers.

Mine did it, after a car wash to get oil out of the bottom of the pan. I accidentally sprayed the front of the bike and it came on. As soon as it dried it went off, it was very faint though.....wasn't at full brightness.
