MCN says: " they are a step up in class compared to the tyre they replace."
I wonder what tyre they are replacing. They still advertise the Rennsports.

Looks like a nice wet weather tire
They definately look to be Rennsport replacements given the pattern and 3 compounds.
I like that they say that you will get more consistent wear accross the tire. I loved Rennsports, my only complaint was when they would cold tear so maybe they got that squared away.

I've used a couple of sets primarily for trackdays with solid results. It seems as though the NEW metzeler racetec is positioned to replace the Renns though.

Do the renns heat up quick, anything noteworthy about them?

Yeah the heat build up is fairly quick but with cold PSI @ 31F & 29R they do feel a bit squirmy until some heat is generated. The ones i used on my 02 R1 were RS2-F RS3-R 190/55 on an abrasive track in 90+ degree heat and only had a slight hint of cold tearing.

Mmmmmm, i'll describe it as best i can......typically it happens to a particular section of the tire ( right or left side) depending on the track that begins to tear or perhaps ever so slightly chunk and it can be due to a couple of things, ie improper PSI, improper suspension setup, and one all to common reasons is the tire hasn't come up to proper operating temp yet! and i don't mean the surface rubber, i mean the entire tire, ie the internal cords/belts, the air inside and in some cases the wheel believe it or not can create this phenomenon 'cold tearing'. The tire will not look smooth over the entire surface (edge to edge).
Perhaps someone else has a far better description than I.

Sounds like a perfect description to me.
On an interesting note, using the Supercorsas back to back with the Rennsports I noticed that the Supercorsas don't tend to do that nearly as much. Dont know why, they are supposed to be basically the same tire.
