One of the orgs that I ride with offer discounts on Bohn equipment. You might want to chack and see if that is the case with the org you ride with. Regardless, I was glad to be wearing mine a few weeks ago. I'm happy to see you buying one.

I'm scheduled to do a track day with 'Sportsbike Track Time' next month and they offer Bohn. Any ideas on which model? Thanks.

I have the Bohn Cool-Air Pro back protector, and like it a lot. Very light, you can soak it in water on a hot day to keep you cooler, and good protection (tested recently, in fact - and passed). Not cheap, and a bit bulky, but a definite thumbs up.

Check out Dainese Wave (# depends on your height). Very good protection and ventilation!!!

I have the new Alpinestars Tech back protector and I like it. In fact, others at the track have commented on it because they thought it looked to be well made.

I have used others before and like this one better because of its retention system (ala the kidney belts for dirt bikes), strength (this thing is solid, although not yet tested, thank God), and full range coverage (it goes down a bit more than my old Dainese unit, which I thought left some areas unprotected). Movement is good (you forget you have it one when you're on the track) and it is decently ventilated.

Plus, it's not overly priced. I think I paid $120 for it. Just be sure that you get the '04 model because they recently redesigned it.

Actually, STT is the org I was refering to, DB. I bought one after Monte (co-owner of the org) goaded me into being safer. He's good at that. I found that one important thing is to get one that is just long enough to protect and no longer. Otherwise, they tend to stick up out of your leathers and push your helmet forward on your head when you're laying down on the tank with your head up. As far as protective abilities: I was wearing my Bohn when I crashed at Putnam a couple weeks ago. Of course, a lowside isn't exactly a violent test of body armor. I slid a ways on my back but never had an impact with anything. My leathers (which also have spine padding) seemed to take the brunt of the punishment. But I'm an old bastard and any armor I can get just means that many fewer days walking around like an arthritis sufferer.

Oh yeah, two more things. First, I think STT requires, not recommends back protectors. Second, if you want to buy from them, give them a call ahead of time to make sure that they will be bringing all the sizes you may want to try. Their number is on the website.

Most any of them are better than non at all. Any with the spine plates that follow your bending motion are the best.

I have the Alpinestars Tech protector and I'm very happy with it. Fits good and feels very sturdy and protective. The Tech protector is a fairly big protector and might be a tight fit under some 1 piece leather suits (the same with the Dainese Wave), so wear your leathers when shopping for the protector.
