1000 SuperSport ZX10 Dyno runs

Heres a dyno for a 1000 Supersport drag bike we just built up.

The Blue line is stock.Blue line.
The Red line is TiForce full system with a "borrowed" map and gasoline.
The green line is Pipe, PC111 custom mapped for race fuel and ceramic wheel bearings.

Healthy huh? More than 16hp in SS trim and the engine hasn't been touched at all.

Nice numbers, did'nt know too much about upgrading the bearings until I read a Big Daddy post, is this a common thing? Thanks for sharing.

In SuperSport (well, before the jackass new ECU rule) every .0001 ment something...so if you didn't have them you were behind the guys who were winning and had them.

Before working for Orient Express I worked for a lubricant company and supplied some of the then 600 SS guys pure liquid teflon lube for bearings and the chain...the stuff was like $10 an ounce, but it was slippery as $hit and those guy swore by it.

How can I get some of those bearings for my SS bike? Are you guys distributing them? If so, pm me re: price/details. Thanks in advance.

you can get ceramic bearings from worldwide wheel bearings. they come in race and street. the only difference between the two is that the street is packed with grease and have dust seals.

I was at a track day this weekend and some folks showed up with a portable dyno. Since it was raining cats and dogs and no one was riding, we arranged an informal shoot out. Now I know that dyno numbers are only good for comparison if the runs are on the same day under the same conditions. So I have the results for 2 box stock zx10's, 1 box stock CBR1000RR and 1 '04 Yamaha R1 with the cat removed. All of these were run virtually back to back on a Dynojet dyno.

ZX10 blue 149.6 hp 75.5 ft/lbs torque
ZX10 green 148.8 hp 74.8 ft/lbs
R1 (no cat) 148.2 hp 71.3 ft/lbs
CBR1000RR 142.7 hp 74.0 ft/lbs

The dyno operator said that the difference in the 2 ZX10's was probably due to the blue one having lighter oil. And that was exactly the case. The blue was broken in hard and was using 10w-40 motor oil. The green was broken in by the book (really) and was using 15w-50 motor oil.

In spite of the fact that there were several '03 and '04 Suzuki's present, none would do the dyno. Even modified ones. One race prepped '02 GIK owner did get his bike dynoed. I did not see it, but the operator said his peak hp was 142.0. Some other runs that I saw were a Micron hi piped equiped '02 or '03 R1 that came in just a hair under 130 hp and a RC51 with full Akrapovic system put out 114.

Just out of curiosity... if the lube and bearings can make a measurable difference, how about over inflated tires , rolling resistance .I know softer flatter is better out of the hole .

Sure lots of sketchy dyno shops will underinflate your bike when you come in and baseline and overinflate it for the final runs......don't know exactly what its worth but I bet it's more than nothing.

I've seen readings vary plus 1 or 2 hp with a heavier rider, sitting farther back on the bike and/or an over-inflated tire. The key is consistency. Thatz all. Keep as many factors the same as humanly possible.

I asked my techs about this and I guess I read the notes wrong (or couldn't read the cryptic messages all mechanics know).

The middle run was without any map at all, yet still race fuel not gasoline.

Both gasoline and race fuel give similar results without a PC3 to map it...pipe alone 9-11 hp.

The race fuel is worth between 3 to 5hp when mapped correctly. Yes MR9 on this bike.

I'm not sure if this link will work. But in July '03, I did some pretty extensive tests of VP race fuels using my ZX12 and posted on the ZX12 site. In particular Ultimate 4, MR1, & MR9. Your results may vary, but MR9 was worth well over 7 hp as compared to pump gas just pouring it in with no other changes to the existing set-up. And when using other "mystery" mixes with the race team, it's worth more. But the costs are prohibitive...
