california model
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the california models and the rest? I'm not sure but I think one way is the cali-models have another sticker on the tank for one thing.

Look for an evap canister in the right side inner fairing. If it's there, it's a CA model. You should be able to see it by looking down the inside of the fairing where the clutch cable routes down.

If you're considering buying a bike and it's in neighboring states like AZ, it could very well be a CA model.

It would suck to have one of those. If you have one of those. Take it apart and sell the parts on ebay and turn it stolen. Words of wisdom. LOL

Ah, you forget those sultry auburn models from down south...Their exhaust note has that special southern twang, and they may be slower, but those moves can't be beat!

...it probably affects engine emissions, NOT engine performance...does that make sense?...and makes the bike weigh in a little bit more with its extra stuff...so it might affect the bike's overall performance on th road, all else being equal...

OH and BTW......an easy check for Calif. or evap. equipped models....if you have the key open the tank cap , look for a small rubber donut between the fuel tank and fuel cap outside rim where the small vent spicket rests when the fuel cap is closed......this donut is a seal for emissions.

I thought they issued another donut as well? One for non-CA riders trying to lane split in rush hour traffic, after dark in the rain?

...define 'performance'...are you trying to determine if the 49-state models are better than the CA models in the 1/4-mile and top-speed measurements?...seat of the pants performance?...or are you trying to determine if the CA models perform a better job with emissions controls than the 49-state models...so...define 'performance'....

Are the canadian models different, other than the ignition imobilizer? Different ECU, or compression? I'd heard that some R1s from canada had a bit more squish than US models.

Canadian models are US Spec, right down to the turn signals. They get that for being a vassal state.

Oh, and I was thinking that there's a difference in CA models as well:
SoCal models are lighter, but the ECU can't keep track of the miles, how fast you're going or how much gas is left...
NoCal models are darker, more adventurous and not afraid to shake you off if you are treating her badly.

Ca models always have more emmissions and are usually down on HP because of all the extra shit they have to help control there already poluted environment. As for Hp I do not know about the 10R, However Im sure that they put out less ponies.
