Changed front tire today
Front and rear now wearing D208ZRs.
Wow, what was the torque on that front axle nut from KMC? There used to be this combination axle-nut wrench-sparkplug wrench in the toolkit. Now there's two peices formerly associated... but I got the wheel off.
Trouble all the way around until I got it off. My front stand has been on backorder for a while from the local guy, so I stopped by Harbor Freight and picked up a couple-of cheap 1" wide ratcheting tie-down straps, and looped 'em over the garage door track at the backhanger, loosened all the bolts (the axle was a cast-aluminum BITCH), then picked up the front end.
But the tire was boatloads easier to get off than the rear, and the new one slid right on like it was greased (it wasn't...)
This bike is strange - both the front and rear used the exact same amount of weight to balance as I took off (not in the same spots, though). Wonder if the trend will continue.
The new rear felt quicker-steering, but the new front adds a falling-in off the center - past a slight lean, it really wants to carve in. I could really feel the front wheel momentum as I scrubbed it in. Tire stops better than the 218 did, too.
I think I likey... will report back from the twisties tomorrow.

4150 rear, 4530 front. I think I could have kept the front for 500 more, but it really felt awful until it got hot and stayed hot for a while, and when it started not keeping a line on rough pavement and pushing/sliding, I thought it was time for it to go. It wasnt unpredictable, (exactly the opposite - it slid in the same turns at the same spot...) but I really didn't care for the feeling.

I find I get about twice as many miles out of my front tire than the back....
probably 'cause it spends so much time up in the air! booyah!
ok, just kidding....

I like the 208 front much better - it feels more confident, and stuck to the line like glue. I was able to hit some turns I didn't like so much on the 218 front with no ill effects (chatter, skip, slide type effects).
I think I've burned through about 1/3 of the rear in 350 miles, though.

changed mine also, got a 3 inch wood screw in the rear. put on a new set of corsas i had left over from the 636. same size front but 180/55 on the rear. i did not know what to expect from the smaller rear but after about 250 miles today in some tight and open riding all i can say is wow. what a nice package, total stability, great turn in ,super grip in and coming out of the corners. i really liked these tires on the 636 and they work just as well on the 10R. so i guess what i'm saying is don't think you have to stay with the 190/50. in my opinion the 180/55 handles better and you lose nothing anywhere else...

I totally agree, I have a 180/55 on the rear, and I really like it.

I put on supercorsa's (190/55) front and back and went to the track yesterday. the tires completely transformed an already quick steering bike, but now I don't have any problems with the front sliding. The 190/55 was noticably taller than the 180/55, with more meat on the side for corning confidence. I will post pics later of the awesome day we had yesterday. Oh by the way there was an Italian dude on an 04 R1 and I think he was a horrible rider but, he got to see what it looks like to have his ass kicked by a ZX10(boy was it ugly).

Gald to hear you are enjoying the black bike, you do need to send photos though. What else have you done to it?

kz2zx> So to change the front tire, you suspended the bike in the air using a couple of tie down straps? I need to make the same change this week, and I too am without front stand. Just trying to find the best way to hold the front end in the air without a front stand....

Johnny> I really haven't done too much to it, I just put the Hyperpro steering damper on, took all the stickers off, changed tires and adjusted the rear damping on it. I will be getting the rims painted here shortly(after most of the track days are done), putting a double bubble on it and maybe eventually putting a pipe on it(but it just sounds soo damn good right now). So basically nothing really just enjoying the hell out of my bike.

My partner knocked the catalyst out of the exhaust because he is still deciding on which system he wants. It sounds pretty good too, he's the guy that polished his frame. Now that looks really good. Are the tyres (SuperCorsa)any cheaper there?

Yes, exactly. Two 1" wide ratcheting tie-downs. Loosen the bolts first, and do it with the garage door up - it's not weight that's the problem, but the track will try to twist if the door's not up, and tear the bolts out of the backhanger. Pick the bike up evenly - the straps go under the top clamp, careful of the ignition switch. Before you lift, besure the fairing is clear...
and I'd rather have my front stand than do it this way.

Most definitely, I paid 396 for SC2's front and back, mounted and balanced, the cheapest I could find with shipping was 420 +.
