Wheelies

I dont know about most but I love to do wheelies. Sometimes short and slow, sometimes long and hard! I used to have a 929 and it was pretty easy to do things like tank wheelies and even a high chair or two but this ZX10 is just so much different. I am hoping that after alot of testing, it will come back to me but its pretty tricky on this bike when you start trying to do more advanced wheelies. Are there any other wheelie dudes out there?

As I'm sure you've seen - you aint high-chairin this one.

Jason Britton and I were talkin bout that on Sunday - he said he liked the bike and the built in stunta tank but that the upper will be toast on the first drop.

Besides, wheelies are illegal and 55 saves lives.

It just seems like the tank is so high up. Even for tank wheelies it seems like the handle bars are too close to the tank, so that your legs will get into the bars really easy.

I wish I had some input/instructions
I am just glad to hear that from an expert and wheelie lover.
I thought I was just getting old or something. It feels like the foreword weight bias is throwing my balance off.
I even went down 2[rear] hoping that would smoothe things out/slow things down--no luck.
Maybe miles/some dirt bike miles will help me get used to wheelies on the 10.
I hope somebody has some advise.

I have no experience with wheelies. I am learning slowly. I take it in baby steps...I bring the front tire a little more each day. I am juat plain worried about dumping the bike. Any advice???

Or a mountain bike - that'll help with balance point feeling (guess if I followed my own advice might help).

If I'm diagnosed terminal and survive the ride home from the doctor's office (well, ok, the third opinion doctor's office)...

I'm stealing an F-15E.

What the f#%@& is a "high chair". Wasn't the 10 designed to go through curves?

A high chair wheelie is where you are sitting on the tank with your feet over the windscreen. Its not for the faint of heart but it is a thing of beauty when its done correctly. Some bikes are much easier to do it on but the ZX10 is not one of them, the tank is too tall and the power is to top end based. I really dont think 100mph high chairs would be the best idea. I am sure that if anyone puts their bike in the hands of a pro stunter, a high chair will be done. But then again look at the pros bikes. Not pretty sights.

That's cool - as long as you are in a controlled environment or on your favorite stretch of deserted road. Same goes for carving corners. Not trying to preach, but I see some guys doing some pretty stupid stuff on our crowded expressways here in Boston. Don't need to be ruffling any government feathers. I like to mix it up with the best of them, but only after we pick our spots. Good luck with your 10. Cheers.

Where do you guys like to practice stunting? I'm looking for ideas. I have basic wheelies down, but for more advanced stuff, I'd like to search out a place where cops won't be too pissed about me practicing .

Alot of times, places like industrial yards and truck yards are good on the days they are closed. You are much less likely to be ticketed in places where there is little to no traffic, even if the cops see you. Traffic areas are a bad place to learn. But this bike is a top end power bike, so if you are trying to learn wheelies on this bike you must be VERY careful. You will be going 100mph on one tire in no time. Not a good idea when trying the basics.

How Not To Wheelie.

It doesn't matter how good you are there is always the chance of fucking up look at the pro's bikes. it would suck to wreak a new zx10r.
On average it cost $3000 to $5000 to fix a new bike not to menchion leathers, helment and doctor bills.
If it rolls a few times its probley totaled
You would think after a broken collar bone, road rash and about $10'000+ in broken bike parts I would learn.

JNM, I riding to Boston for the 4th of july. What is there to do there(clubs,bars,hang-outs)?.........I found that around 50-70 mph I just rip the throttle she pops right up, I'm still new to the wheelie thing. I think its because I have no idea what angle I'm at..........getting better everytime though. One more thing is it me or does it feel a little funny when standing up?
