Hmmmmm....

Where is the best place to grab the speedo signal for a correction device? I tapped into the speedo sensor connector since I had that type of plug lying around. I could also grab it just downstream of the gauge clip, but then the computer doesn't get the message and maybe my top speed is limited another 15%. Are these things restricted in the lower gears? It stands to reason. Why else include a gear position sensor? The values are in the manual, it would be nothing to fake the bike out TRE stylee to see what happens.

The reason for the gear sensor is the FI map. Ie; you will need a different map for each gear, independent of what speed the engine is turning and what temperature the air is.

And grabbing it at the sensor plug sounds like the best plan.

The plugin for Jim Alhmans recal unit is located down in the lower left portion of the engine....in fact follow the sensor wires from the CS cover and you'll find it.

So the question remains: why a different map for each gear and what ulterior motives exist for some of the variance? I'm sure load plays a part, but what else might be going on?
