Thanks Kawasaki for the good brakes.....

Well, my next big mod besides my full system/Power Commander is a Brembo brake kit as soon as they come out. Today I had a near serious accident, and all I can say is we have some pretty good stock brakes, and after today, ill be upgrading my brakes as id never really needed them before today.

Was just headed home from work about 20 mins ago, (going west on 635 for you dallas folks) riding in the lane just to the right of the far left lane, doing about 70 in a group of about 6 cars, surrounded by cars on all sides except the front, when all the sudden out of the corner of my right eye, I see a Expedition slam on the brakes, and smash into the rear of the Corolla in front of it (which was to my right 2 lanes over) I slam on my brakes, and right at that time the car with the smashed rear end veered into the the car right next to me, and I had good enough brakes to stand it on end, and as I was almost in a STOPPIE position, the both cars went right in front of me across my lane, and taking out a 3rd car in the far left lane on the other side of me, and all three ended up in the median

I about crapped my pants, pulled over, made sure everyone was ok, then took it on home. If I had been only 30 more feet in front of where I was, id prolly be in a Careflight Chopper right now.......all the cars were pretty banged up......just sitting here cleaning my boxers out and thanking God im not in the hospital, thought id share..........

Wow.

Glad to hear you made it out unscathed.

Whenever that shit happens, I am always afraid I'm gonna get hit from behind by the inattentive drivers following me.

I'd say it's time to have a snort of good whiskey. Theraputic for the nerves, they say...

Good job of avoiding becoming another statistic. But if the stock brakes are good enough to stand it on the nose, what other benefit would you expect to gain from changing brakes. I have put a couple of thousand miles on a bike with the Brembo's and I am completely happy with the stock brakes on the ZX10. I think my ZX10 brakes are easier to modulate, than the Brembos.

From what I got about the brakes from some was they are very much like the 03 GSXR. The pads lack initial bite and have to be heated up to work well, consistent with the same drawn out bed it period.

I would say if you went with some aftermarkets, you would be very happy and not want to swap the whole system.

I can tell you on the GSXR it was a dramatic difference and went from "oh my god when will this thing stop" to pretty nice.

MY stock pads seem to lack some bite when I get on the bike for the first time if it has been setting for a while. After a few applications, they seem to work pretty well. They don't seem to change after that, as long as I am still riding. At a recent track day, one of my riding partners on a '03 Gixxer 1K and I went out together. We are about the same speed. He came in from the session 1 lap early because the Suzi didn't have any brakes left. My brakes were still working well. Having said that, when the original pads wear out, I probably will try something else. Not because I am unhappy with what I have but because I am always trying to find something better. But I still feel that these are the best "stock" brakes I have had the pleasure of using. And I don't feel that they give up anything to Brembos.

Other than being a little numb at the lever, these things are great. I think lines will solve that. I've gone through a 99 R1 with hideous brake drag, a 02 Gix 1K that only a 100% change to Brembo was able to help> The 10R has not even motivated me to swap lines yet. I broke them in pretty well I think, so that might help. It's a one finger deal for me right out of the crate.

hope noone got seriously hurt. woulda made some great footage if u had a helmet cam.

as to the brakes, as erich said, just get some braided lines and perhaps some different pads. the lines in particular will likely give u more initial bite, or at least initial feel. i know when i put lines & pads on my 12, it made a world of difference.

Forget initial bite.... I like a linear feel. The harder I squeeze.... the faster the bike slows.
