Wheel Weights?

Anyone know what kind of wheel weights (or where to order) clamp on the 10R rim centerline?

I'm really down on stick-on weights, having lost more than a few, even duct-taped.

I got some side-mount ones that match up with the 10R wheels - but would prefer centerlines.

Anyone have a suggestion?

[edit] I should probably say I change my own tires, and balance 'em too. My Honda had no choice but sidemount 'under the tire' weights, as the surface of the rim was rough-cast and would not hold stick-on weights..

Yeah, I have a suggestion. Clean the rim before you stick the weight on. That and some duct tape and you're ready for MotoGP.

Hrm.

I'm really down on stick-on weights, having lost more than a few, even duct-taped.

My rims are clean, it's usually the front that gets thrown, so it's not chain lube.

I really prefer crimp-on, and on the centerline. Call me anal.

And the Clip on type will damage the finish, I have never lost a wheel weight! I allways use the tape type!

Wow I've never lost any weights, on my 12...does that happen a lot on bike rims?

In all of my years of racing cars and motorcycles, I have never lost a tape-weight. And many of the times I don't use duct tape. Are you sticking them on the side (verticle edge) of the rim, by any chance?

No.

I've lost six front weights from my 1987 CBR1000F. The last one I used cracked my front fender. They were placed next to the center rib. Almost invariably, I lost them on the highway, straight and level. I stopped using them for fear of holing my radiator.

I think it was a combination of the sand-cast rim surface, and the Arizona heat. The foam-doubleside tape would squirm to the inside of the wheel, the weight would slide off front first to the outside, then the weight would go. The foam tape says on a little bit at the rear - depending on how far I rode after the weight was gone would control how much of the foam got ripped off flapping in the breeze.

Duct tape would dry and leave pasty-white adhesive residue, then the wheel weight would come off.

I don't like tape-on because of that. Period. Not gonna change my mind. I'll scratch my rims with clip-ons under the tire first.

I would prefer the same kind Kawasaki used on the center rib.

Why don't the OEMs use stick-ons? Probably for the same reasons I don't.

While I appreciate the concern, I don't really want a discussion of what I might be doing wrong with stick-on weights. What I'd like to know is where to find the kind Kawasaki used so I can order four 5g and two 20g weights. Failing that, I can go down to Cycle Gear and beg a selection of ones taken from other bikes, but this is a sub-optimal conclusion.

That's right. They moved away from lead. Something about poisoning the Ducs.

Don't use duct tape as it dries out. Use foil tape - it doesn't dry out.

Never thought about that, thanks! Course, on a race bike the tires are never on there long enough for the duct tape to dry out, but I'll keep that in mind for the next set of street tires.
