suspension travel
...calling all math whizzes and suspension gurus...the rear suspension of the stock 10R specs-out at 4.9 inches of travel (per the official shop manual)...does that 4.9 mean when its unladened?...or does it mean 4.9 available once proper sag/pre-load/ride height/etc. is dialed in with its rider on board?...and (this is a long shot question) how many inches of travel would remain available at the rear suspension with, say a 250lb package of geared up rider?...is it even possible to calculate?...curious mind wants to know...thanks!

i'm pretty certain 4.9in will refer to TOTAL travel, as you cannot count on sag being the same on everybike. as to available travel laden with a rider, depends on your suspension settings of course, preload etc. also would depend just how far forward or back the rider is setting. too many variables. besides, without knowing all the exact specs & geometry (which i doubt kawasaki publishes in that detail) you couldnt calculate it properly either. u'd be MUCH better off and faster just sitting on the bike & measuring it.

...so unlike dirtbikes where youcan actually see ALOT of compression and rebound movement, with the 4.9 specs of a 10R, we're probably talking about up to three inches of compression movement with me on board and probably no more than that...plausible?

i'd suspect you wouldnt have that much sag actually. certainly forks seem to have very little sag. if i'm not mistaken, u'r normally only losing in the area of 1in of travel duel to sag with a ride, so u'd still have like 3.5in+ of travel left. i'v never really measured that tho, so it's quite possible i could be wrong.

A very solid rule of thumb when it comes to general suspension setup is laden sag for front or rear should be 30-33% or 1/3 of the total available travel leaving you with 2/3 usable travel.
