Connections?
I was wondering if anyone hear had any phone #'s I could call to invite racer's/reps or anything of the sort to a bike night. I keep reading about all these great bike nights all over california. I am wanting to get one started here in Reno, NV. There is one every wed night at a place called P.J.'s but it's lame. Mostly a bunch of beer drinking harley riders hangin out. I would like to get a REAL sportbikenight started. Any help sure would be appreciated!

in my experience there's a few things you can do depending on how serious you are and whether you're willing to put some cash into it.
the cheap and obvious one is to post about it on boards, like you're doing here. Try to hit as many boards as you can. make sure to mention the region (Reno) in teh subject line so people form teh area actually read the thread.
spend a little bit of cash (quite cheap) and get some business cards made up. just put the baisc info on the card, ie. the time & day, the location, and give an indication of the target audience and atmosphere u'r trying to achieve. maybe an URL to a simple webpage with a little more info. when u see a bike that fits ur target audience, just leave one on the bike (sticking it under the gas cap keyhole cover works for me).
possibly the most effective but most expensive thing you can do is have some posters printed and put post them in all the local bike shops and hangouts. just plain 11 x 8.5in paper is fine, print it at home if u want. no need for big $$ print shop quality. if the shops are into it, get them to mention the new biek nite to customers when they come in for service. newbies jsut coming in to buy a bike are especially effective targets IMO because they're jsut getting into it and seem to be more interested in meeting up with other bikers.
none fo this is rocket science or secret marketing techniques by any means, all obvious stuff. but so far i havent seen anything better. of yeah, word of mouth is of course the most powerful marketing tool of all.

Thanx freek, I will definitely be doing the card idea. What about getting guest speakers and stuff. I went to a bike night in Sacramento last year and Doug Chandler was there. Is it going to cost money to have pro's there speaking and doing interviews or are some of them cool and come out just cuz.

If it's somewhere not too far out of their way, most will just do it. But if they have expenses to pay to travel, well thatz a different deal that anyone would expect.
Doug doesn't mind doing the Sacramento thing, because he uses a cart track up there so he just plans around it and makes it a full day. Plus, Doug's a normal guy who hasn't forgotten where he came from. But Reno is quite a ways from Salinas. Give him an excuse to come up there! If you come up with something, let me know and I'll talk to him for you. We've been friends for 25 years.

Wow, thanx Kerry. Thats awsome. I will talk to the rest of my group and try to hook something up. We are just in the beginning stages of this so it may take a few days. Thank you so much.
