Oil Filter change - question
I just picked up my 10 and was looking at the filter placement. Since I will have a couple hundred miles on her by the weekend, I want to get a new filter on her. What have people found is the best way to keep the oil off the pipes? I see a ring/spacer welded in between two of the pipes. Can you put the funnel spout through it and catch all the oil with the funnel? Does it have to be a shallow funnel? Or do most just put alluminum foil around the pipes before hand? Any and all stories appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Dread
P.S. - any help with convincing reasons why I don't have to sell the 12 would be very helpful as well. Keep in mind they have to pass the wife's smell test.

The aluminum foil works for me. I try to shape it to control where the oil drains. Easy and cheap.

I did it last weekend - used foil - learned that trick right here - rolled up the edges, slipped it through, curved it over the pipes, & no problem, not a drop on the pipes. To get the filter out you need to lift it up & through the 2 middle pipes. Quite easy, actually. You'll need an "end cap" type of filter wrench to loosen it though, at least I did, the kind that goes over the end of the filter & a ratchet extension goes into it.
