if you really bought a zx-10r.....
OK I have been reading alot about the zx-10r. I first heard about it in early jan 04. Well I picked mine up May 7/04. I am wondering why I noticed something about my bike that nobody has mentioned. Maybe mine is fuxored. Well I noticed that the damn seat gets hot. Very hot. I am not sure what is under there..but man does it make heat. Is it possible that engine heat is making its way into my seat...not sure. I just find it odd that after only two days of owning my zx-10r I had noticed this. Nobody else mentioned a thing. Also I find the clutch to be very "weird". I know it has a slipper clutch but I find it makes a knocking sometimes while up shifting. Anyways just a couple of things I noticed about the 10 after week of riding..

Yes to the clucking clutch, no to the hot seat. I've done several non-stop tankfuls (140-150 miles) in 85 degree weather and did not notice any unusual butt heat.

Clunk is related to slipper clutch. Not a problem.
I have not noticed the seat getting hot at all and since I live in one of the warmer parts of the US of A, I would think I would have noticed it. I have over 3000 miles on mine. Hot seat is not an issue on the ZX10.

Perhaps your butt cheeks are reflexively puckering, producing friction which results in the sensation of heat. This condition is not entirely unheard of, and is the result of being astride such a beast.

re:butt
I do not have a problem with gas coming from my butt. I live in southern ontario and have been riding in very cool weather. About 10 degrees celcius. Well I am sure it is in the electrical of the bike causing the heat. It will probably not be as hot once it gets a little warmer around here.
P.S it is a knock noise coming from the clutch

Be carefull.. The battery and all the electrics are mixed right under there.
If your battery was overheating due to some kind of problem - bad things could happen.
Maybe you should pop the seat off and have a look..

I have also warm seat..! but noticed that it's not the seat thats heating. Hot air rises from under the seat or under the tank to your legs and arse and it feels like you have a hot seat... Same issue was with zx-6r, though the hot air came from under the tank.

Ha I knew it wasn't my ass acting up on those long rides. This is straight from the 2004 model information from kawasaki.:* Wiring harness features newly designed relay box, compact fuse box and simplified
wiring layout for easier maintenance. Most electrical components are concentrated
under the seat.

Me and Zeta are gonna have to swap bikes for a ride cause mine has a lot of heat comming up from the side panel vents that do creat a lot of heat! And I have a TLR1000 which everyone knows is a roaster!
And the clutch does make some strange feelings.
And then if want to pick it apart! My Tiller (V Twin) doesn't vibrate near as much!

The clutch has a clunky feel because you are upshifting to soon . You are lugging the motor which causes harm to it . You never want to lug a motor with a manual tranny . Keep the bike in the lower gears and the clutch is fine .
My seat stays cool even in our current 106* temps . I know piss is warm or mine is .

In response to dket, I don't use the clutch much when upshifting and it does it downshifting as well, Oh yes and per the breakin procedures one shouldn't rev the motor above 4,000 so lugging it for 500 miles is recomended by Kawasaki, Face it man it's clunky! :-)

Houston,Texas 90f+days neighborhood cruises/slow in shorts-no noticeable above normal heated seat/muffler/engine heat.
Highway in leathers all day.Heat/seat seems normal.
Tranny is definitely clunky/noisey/whiney.I really like that.I sounds strong.
Shifting was notchy until 1000 miles.Still likes to be shifted correctly to be smoothest.
