Undertail/License plate mounted today

Spent about an hour in the hardware store cutting/mocking a piece of 1/4" metal for the back of the license plate bracket I made, and also stopped at Autozone and over in there "ricer" department I picked up some LED turn signals, and LED lights to illuminate the plate. Here are the pics--

The plate mounted great up under there, didnt hit anything, and looks really good. I even saw a local police officer, and asked him if he would cite me for it and he said no, it looked ok, and as long as it was illuminated he wouldnt have a problem with it. The LED turn signals, like the one you see above havent been installed yet, just put that one in to see if I wanted to go this route. I may do it since they were only $16, and will tide me over until a Rear Integrator kit comes out for our bikes. Should have the mini-LED's installed later tonite for the license plate, will post some better pics after everything is installed and completed.Oh, and the pics are bad, had to take them with my camera phone since the other camera was up at the house. In case anyone is wondering, sitting on the bike, the plate still has about 3/4" or a little more space before hitting, so there is plenty of room for it down there in case anyone else is thinking of putting it down there.......

I may need some grommets or something to fill the void where those two black spaces are, havent found anything to fill them with yet, if you know of anything, please let me know........

That plate looks real close to hitting the hugger under passenger load.

...or my 230lb fatass...wonder what'll do the first time you hit a dip or a high speed whoop in the street?...that suspension's gonna move up more than 3/4" even if you're lighter than 230lbs...hmmmm....

I put my plate in the same place but I use the stock plate bracket. I took off the seat and pulled up the computer and drilled two holes and mounted on the angle of the black part of the tub. And for lights I pulled the hole tail section and put two of the large flush mount lights in. I used the the hole from the stock wires and made it a little bighger than made one on the other side. It looks great, and I've done it on a few at the shop as well. I'm sorry I have no way to take pictures.

I bent the plate so the holes were facing up. It still hits the hugger. I have a fix for the holes in the undertail. Turnsignals

yeah runninhorn, don't think that plate position is gonna work. u'd have to make sure it doesnt hti with teh rear suspension fully bottomed out, and it dont look like it woudl clear from the angle u showed. most people mount it looking "down", just placing it right against the plastic. it's not quite as visible, but iv had a couple cops ok it here.

Im 232 lbs today, took it for a 30 min ride, many bumps, many whoops, not a single scratch on the hugger fender....

well, once I get my license plate in, ill be shaving a good bit off the top of the license plate, and off the bottom, to give me even more space, I took it for a spin today with no problems.......

...I dunno about your local VCs (vehicle codes), but I suspect that any form of 'alteration' ie. bending, trimming, stickering, painting, disguising, etc. of a government issued document (which your license plate is) is prohibited and "probable cause" for your friendly neighborhood cop to stop you on your evil-with-no-social-redeeming-value sportbike...a problem if you don't like hangin' out with cops...ya' pays yer' moneys n' ya' takes yer' chances...

...may I suggest keeping it unaltered and reasonably visible?...trust me on this...you can thank me later

No thanks, Ive done it before with no hassle, and im not talking about shaving anything with writing on the plate, but our plates in texas come with a good bit of blank white space surrounding the entire plate, that is what ill be shaving.........

...here ya' go!...from your Texas Motor Vehicle Codes...just tryin' ta'help!

§ 502.409. WRONG, FICTITIOUS, ALTERED, OR OBSCURED
LICENSE PLATE. (a) A person commits an offense if the person
attaches to or displays on a motor vehicle a number plate or
registration insignia that:
(1) is assigned to a different motor vehicle;
(2) is assigned to the vehicle under any other motor vehicle law other than by the department;
(3) is assigned for a registration period other than the registration period in effect;
(4) is fictitious;
(5) has letters, numbers, or other identification marks that because of blurring or reflective matter are not plainly visible at all times during daylight;
(6) has an attached illuminated device or sticker, decal, emblem, or other insignia that is not authorized by law and that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers on the plate or the name of the state in which the vehicle is registered; or
(7) has a coating, covering, or protective material that:
(A) distorts angular visibility or detectability; or
(B) alters or obscures the letters or numbers on the plate, the color of the plate, or another original design feature of the plate.
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (f), an offense under
Subsection (a) is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more
than $200, unless it is shown at the trial of the offense that the
owner knowingly altered or made illegible the letters, numbers, and
other identification marks, in which case the offense is a Class B
misdemeanor.
(c) to (e) Repealed by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 165, §
30.66, eff. Sept. 1, 1997.
(f) An offense under Subsection (a)(4) is a Class B misdemeanor.

...the key phrase to remember is from paragraph (B): alters or obscures the letters or numbers on the plate, the color of the plate, or another original design feature of the plate

...uh...the plate's dimensions in and of itself IS an original design feature of the plate....see?

..not that I personally would sweat that kind of detail when I'm working, but I could if I really wanted to stop a rider with no other probable cause available...and count yourself lucky that maybe your Texas cops aren't as detail oriented as some cops are and haven't taken the time to really study some parts of their Vehicle Code bible
