Comfort level on the 10R?
Im thinking of getting a ZX10R. After owning a 2000 Zx12R, everything else seems slow. I need some input from ZX10R owners out there. As I do a 40 mile commute each day, How would you rate the comfort (score of 1 to 10) of the Zx10R?
I guess a Goldwing would be a 10.
A Ducati 916 would be a 1.
A Zx12 would be around a 7.5.
What would a 10R Be?
If you include your height it would be helpful... that seems to make quite a bit of defferance. Im 5 Ft 9 Inches BTW.

I think it's pretty roomy, and I'd give it a 7.5. I can stay on it without pain far longer than my old CBR.
The place I feel it is my wrists under the base of the thumb - my hands can go numb, and my jacket sleeves are forced into that joint.

I do a a lil less than a 40 mile commute daily on my 10, I've been doing it for a week now dealing with traffic and all sorts of crap up here in Boston and I'd give the ride about an 8....I'm sure there's a more comfortable bike out there but why would you want to ride anything else? oh and height...I'm 6'3"

For the stock 12R is a 7.5 and tolerable for one non-stop tank of gas at a time....now w/Corbin, foot control mods, heli-bars, its a 12.0 (hey, I like that number! ), and I can do two "non-stop" gas tanks and literally do 8~10 hour days on it...actually 'stopping' only to re-fuel bike and body
I remember thinking that the 10R would feel like a 6.0~7.0 on a long ride during my short KMC demo ride and felt it in the knees a bit and definitely in the wrist...I'm 6'-1"tall/230lbs/32"inseam/ of man meat...heli-bar and foot control mods could raise the score significantly FOR ME, but possibly lower its track-oriented ergo-dynamics for the rest-a-yaz' young bucks.
I'll have better input once I ride non-stop on one tankful...

Having owned a 900RR, a 916, an R1 and a Gixxer 1000, after 1300 miles of mainly half day rides, I'd rate the 10R above all its predecessors (and miles above that Ducati torture rack). In rides of 150 miles non-stop, the only problem I've found is the numb throttle hand syndrome mentioned above. And I'm 64 fucking years old!

put a NEP throttle lock on, only $18 and you can lock it down and rest your hand. i've used it on all my bikes over the 25 years or so and it is a god send on long rides..

I go to Woodland Hills, Ca from Dallas, Tx twice a year, for two week stints at a time for vacation, to relax and ride the canyons/coast for 2 weeks. I usually trailer my stuff out there, but wanted to ride it atleast once and see what I could do it in--sucks a few places due to the lack of gas stations in the desert, and wore me plum out......

After all this time I find now that the 10R is more comfy that my 12!?!?? It seems the reason is that I don't have to reach as far to the bars! Tha 12 is good for people with loooong arms like an ape or somthin.

6' 200 lbs, 10 R ride comfort in general a 6 but after riding a 2000 TL1000R for a couple of years! I have to say that in the handling dept. the 10 is a 10! Very light and manuverable which makes it less tiring while riding hard!
But! the vibration is a killer! numbness in the throttle hand and stiff suspension settings (great for handling), Heat from engine roasting the jewels, Shifter is clunky (hoping this will get better) I had a blister on the top of my left toe after the first ride! (yes! I had boots on and not sandles)
It's a sport bike not a tourer but I'm lovin it!

umm... fish - it's your board in tribute to the 10R...
could ya at least give it a 6?
all, the vibes are so minimal compared to the (my) last bike - they're all primary mode vibes, not secondary...
is this what the mags mean by "unrefined"?

I am 6'0" 185# 59 yrs old.
If the 12 is 7.5 I give the ZX10 an 7.5 also, for short commutes. The ZX10 is Great for 50 mile commutes/probably better than the 12 for that distance.
LONG RIDES
I Rode my Busa Houston to Sturgis round trip[750 mile days/3000+ miles]Comfort was good.
My 12 was more comfortable[better wind protection/seat to footpegs distance].Fuel range was not as good as the Busa.
I felt the 12 was in the comfort range of my R1100RS for long trips.Only difference was stiffer suspension/chain drive[I was afraid to set the 12 full soft because I like to ride 100-140mph conditions permitting]
Because I tour fast I give the RS a 10 rating[safety/comfort/speed/range]
I give the 12 an 8.5.Busa an 8.
I give my ZX10 a 7 rating[footpeg height/wind protection/range/chain].I did do a 500 mile day riding it home [Kalamazoo-Houston 1200 miles] for break in.

Damn - what's up Iron Butt?
Gonna be hard to find a more subjective comparison than that.
I haven't ridden any Beemers yet but I agree with yer opinion there.
When I can afford a second bike - I will have a Busa again.
