clutch slippage- long winded
Made it to 900 miles basically following the book on break in. Got my euro signals and scott dampener installed. So, me thinks, it's time to see what she's got! Brought her out Wednesday night to run the 10 against an 04 R1 that had been itching to race. He's been spanking all the busas and 12's and has been riding me to run him. well to the point.. I had my @ss handed to me!!! how could this be??? Everyone wrote it off to me sucking. I even went along. I did just come off a TLS and have "feared" the vengence of the 10. In the back of my mind I didn't think something was right. I proved it to myself today. I ran it up to 8k rpm in 1st gear, dip the throttle then nail it to pull it up. The wheel came up a foot then fell back to the road as I was NAILING it in FIRST gear!! By all rights the thing should have put me into the blacktop behind it. brought it straight to the shop. Yup, slipping after about 6k rpm confirmed by the mechanic. Not just letting loose, but not putting the power to the wheel. Has anyone else experienced this or heard of it??

Funny, mine will put me on my head if I nail the throttle in first gear.

Got about 1300 miles and the clutches feel great. Have you loaned your bike out to any of you buddies? Coming off the TL you might have had the tendency to slip the clutch a little too much unknowingly? Don't really know but maybe your dealer will look out for ya . . .

2600 miles and counting. No clutch slip at all.
HOWEVER, I do have another clutch issue. I think what I am experiencing is a product of the slipper clutch, but I really don't know how it is built. At about 2200 miles I noticed that whenever I would shut the throttle and let the bike decelerate and then pull in the clutch, the clutch will not disengage immediately. Occasionally, it takes more than a second or 2 to release. If you blip the throttle, you will feel a small jolt before the clutch releases. If you pull in the clutch with no deceleration loading on the clutch, it releases immediately. Any of you Kawasaki guys in the know have any ideas about this? Should I be worried?

naaaa, I don't do the loaning thing. I'd rather loan out my 'ol lady than my bike (might be why I'm single...) As for slipping the clutch coming off the TL, never! Clutches are for starting out from a stop and downshifting in my opinion (exageration). Hell, on the TLS, through third gear all I'd have to do was dip the throttle at about 7k rpm then pull on the bars to stand her up. That's why I was suspecting a problem with the 10. It just never seams to want to pull up. All my buds figured it had just been too long since I rode an inline 4 and that I was trying to make excuses for getting my arse handed to me. The clutch never "let loose" and always accelerated, just not as hard as I thought it should have. Like I said earlier, the dealership confimered it has a problem. They are pretty good guys there. Lets hope it'll all get sorted. btw- my American Iron Horse Chopper is in the shop too. Sucks to have an empty stable!!! Guess I could ride a bicycle... naaaaaaaa

Perhaps the last clutch fiber is offset causing premature slip. Easily fixed

Its hard to diagnose what the problem can be over the net...could be the way you ride???...what TB said about offset fiber...could be a real problem...clutch cable is too tight, not enough play in lever...

I'd suspect the clutch cable too tight, as CrotchRocket said.

much slack in the cable. that was my first thought. second was may be the cable getting hung and not releasing. It's at the shop now, so i guess the mystery should be solved soon. I'll post the diagnosis as soon as I find out.
