Most dealers really don't care about an out of state price. You have to gauge your discounting on how well they are selling in your area, how many do you have on hand vs: what is left to come in. If most of your local dealers are sitting on bikes they may discount; if they know they are the only ones in like a 50 mile radius with units on hand it may hurt you. I say don't worry about what price others have got. Work out your deal and keep in mind you may need their help and assistance with parts and accessories or just things in general. Even if you don't purchase, don't burn any bridges, its not personal.

Also you have to be careful with an out of state purchase sometimes. In the event of a recall it is possible that the dealership you purchased at could be the place where the recall has to be preformed. I remember when I was selling Busa's back in the day and the cam chain recall came up and a few guys were upset that our dealership could not preform their recall. Not to say all recalls are like this but it is something to consider.
Find a dealer you trust, work the deal, and get to riding. Seems to me as tho you should have worked on the price before putting down the deposit. Get something knocked off or a helmet or slip-on thrown in.

Uh maybe you dont understand what the term "recall" actually means than. If a dealer is an "authorized" Kawasaki dealer (or any brand).... it doesnt matter WHERE you purchased it...period. This is the EXACT reason I dont patronize my local Kawi dealer. Warranty work is warranty work. Some dealers seem to think they're doing you a favor by servicing a bike NOT sold by them. What a stupid way of business thinking.
I brought my 2000 ZX12 in for the various recalls and they gave me that same line of BS about taking to the dealer I purchased it from. I do take it personal when someone trys to play me for an idiot.
And I refuse to let a dealer try to sweeten a deal with some POS helmet or useless overpriced item to justify their pricing. Like Im gonna be happy overpaying $500 while they throw me a $50 helmet? The last ZX12 I purchase I put the screws to the dealer because they though I was gonna lay down and let them keep my deposit. I ended up with gas money AND a 4 yr extended warranty.
Ill patronize someone like Muzzys or Spencer for performance add-ons or upgrades, thank you.

quote:well... I dont believe you've had a "glut" of 10R's down there... CA has had a shortage.. just ask the members who have been trying to get one... maybe some just landed and there are more now, but that certainly hasnt been the case over the last few months.
PS....
Dino sucks no 10R for you!
This is just a realistic account, not internet beleif of what the case is.
Now you maybe there is confusion around choosing to pass due to the price versus availability. As certainly the first units went for full price as is normal for any new bike and more seasoned buyers would refuse to pay those prices.
But make no mistake, they have been delivering fair numbers for a few weeks now. Being in Canada may be a totally different reality, but I can tell you that my closest dealer has had a minimum of 2 on his floor from over 5 weeks ago. When I was last in just over 2 weeks ago, they had 6 on the floor. And they do not normally put all their units on the floor.
By the way, this is in the larger Sacramento area which has a population of well over 1 million. So there is no lack of buyers.
I'm sure you want to provide accurate info. If you like, I can provide you the number for the dealer and you can ring them to verify and or provide it to these members who may be unaware of the supply. I'd post it, directly but not sure if that would be viewed as advertising or a violation. If not, then let me know and I can add it for interested parties.

I don't think six in stock can be considered a glut untill July or August, Bikes sell through out the year ,not just the first week of riding weather. My Dealer has three and sold three and wishes he had a dozen for the rest of the selling season.Alot of dealers don't want to sell out of state simply because they lose service, parts, and accessory business every time one leaves his area. Just give a reasonable price and ride , don't stress the money. That type of stress takes the fun outa' your new bike . Just my $.02 worth.

Turbo,
Did not mean to rattle anyone, and I do know what the term recall means. All I do know is when the busa cam chain recall went down the dealers were sent "X" many recall kits to cover the bikes they had received. If they were to do a recall on a bike they did not sell than one of their customers would have been short a recall kit. This may or may not have been for the entire campaign but at least the first few weeks or months of the recall. I agree with you that a dealer is a dealer; but this was how this particular recall initially was handled. I am by no means saying that all brands handle their recalls like this but this was the case on this particular INITIAL recall. -- Mike
Hate you don't have a better relationship with your local dealer, I could have saved a few hundred dollars by going to Ray's Kawasaki in Sumter, SC (JohnnyBoy's Dealer) which is really not too far from the house. But I understand that my local dealer has to make money in order to be around for my next purchase. I hate for anyone to have to pay full retail, but as an ex-salesman I would hate to have to "smile" and do my "happy dance" over a zero deal on a Hot Bike.

okay, paid for mine today. 10,169. The price for the bike was 9749.00, added the extended warranty 420.00(4 yrs). They will leave it crated up until you come to pick it up, which will happen in June.
Can't wait. I will be registering mine in VA, 4% sales tax, unless I find another states that's cheaper. Any suggestions?

Not necessarily. It's just that if you know factually what the numbers are and/or need to be, it would seem to be a fair request. Everybody wants to get the best deal possible. So if we're all going to try and help one another here with such an important topic/thread, it would be nice to verify and confirm such an outstanding OTD deal.

Turboblew, they have a couple more, give Ms. Rene a call, she the owner's wife. They received my payment today, and she's mailing out my cert of orgin and bill of sale tomorrow. Romni Cycles in West Virgina has them for 9600.00, but you have to be on thier waiting list. I wasn't about to drive from Memphis, to WV to save a 150 bucks
