Well, I learned something today. Huh!
I learned I think I want a 1/4 turn throttle...
My last bike, 1/4 turn was all she had, any more was just wasted, to about 1/2 turn. You ride the same bike for 16 years, you fall into a rut...
The 10R has lots more up top - you just have to keep rolling on the throttle, and my wrist was trained not to. Don't get me wrong, I just found out that it had more than I dared use on the street (interstate) today. I was hitting it hard to about 10k, then it would taper off.. and I never really put two-and-two together (go ahead, you can laugh now). I just didn't feel the throttle stop in a roll-on I did this afternoon (still haven't, actually, this WAS the street).
Hey, XL, you were right about the 20w50 oil, too... it's a noticable (very) difference, no more thick stuff...
And yes, I now believe it will power-wheelie in third at 130 MPH.
Do you hear me? I BELIEVE. Oh yes, I believe.
And, I want a 1/4 (or so) turn throttle.
Anyone try that tie-wrap (pulley-diameter increase) mod yet? The one the R1 and Gixxer boys love so much?
Oh, and let me make it clear - I'm no squid, I just have trained my wrist to a very fine degree of control - it's just that the limits of that control are within about 1/2 turn...

You sure it's the throttle you're used to? Or have you just trained your wrist through other, (ahem), practices?

Good news! You already have a 1/4 turn throttle on your Kawi. Almost all bikes have a 1/4 turn throttle.
The tie-wrap thing seems a little shaky to me. Ever had a throttle stick? No fun, particularly on a bike this powerful. You might want to consider a 1/5 turn throttle from Lockhart-Phillips or something similar instead.

Aie. All right, laugh harder - I just checked the bike in the garage. Even I have to admit it's a 1/4 turn.
Well, shit. I guess I need to learn to open it further...
and what 1/4 of a turn feels like.
And, like Redelk - I'm probably slower than you, so what does it matter?

I think you guys are crazy.
I've heard this story from GSXR1000 guys before, but it just doesn't happen when my butt's on the seat. In fact, a 2nd gear wheelie requires a little coersion, like a tug on the bars or a clutch drop.
Same with the ZX.
I'm 180 lb. if it matters.

Mike, I'm with you.
It's just that I learned today that if I ever do go sort of squidly, yes, the bike does indeed loft the front wheel, at least a little bit...
Basically, I was thinking that I would check out Xl's assertion that I'd like 10W40 a lot better than 20W50, and then I noticed that I'd never felt the throttle stop in 2700 miles. So I experimented at 10K RPM in second, and then third... which is felonious speed, so I stopped playing, but not before the front started coming up. Sort of more-or-less matter of factly, but coming up none the less.
Not something I'll make a regular habit of, but like I said, I learned something. See, I'm 245 lbs.

Mike,
Run it to anything over 9k in 2nd or 3rd and open it up. The front end will come up. You should practice by rolling it on in 1st. Get the clutch all the way out, then hold it wfo till the front wheel is up. Keep doing that until you are ok with the front wheel being in the air. After that your body will stop doing all the things that keep the front wheel down when you crack it wfo in 2nd or 3rd. Then learn to balance. Then become an addict. Is there a 12 step program yet?

I had today a 9krpm sharp, 2nd gear and opened the throttle a bit, and all I got was humping front end. I had to stop immediately cause I got too scared.! This bike is wicked.
But I still believe it will wheelie with 2nd when giving it a decent twist after 9000rpms... (please tell me it will!!)
Cheers

It will stand straight up. Like I said, practice in first by just rolling the throttle open. As the revs rise so will the front tire. Get used to that feeling. It's step one in learning to wheelie. I'm 44. I learned 2 years ago. Now I can balance and ride till I run out of road. I went very slowly, but didn't really make any progress till I tried that method.
