Drag Race mod's - started today
After my disappointing 10.40's, I made a couple of calls to the friendly folks at SpencerCycle and Schnitz Racing.
This summitch had better run 9's this Friday or someone will get a good deal on an Orange 10.
I recieved lowering straps and a radial-mount-strap-bracket from Schnitz last Friday. That was easy enough to install and fit very well, too.
My lowering links, adjustable kickstand, and -1 front sprocket should be here any day from SpencerCycle, so I started disassembly on what needed. I removed the lower fairing and the sprocket cover. In case anyone else tries it, the countershaft sprocket nut is TIGHT. It will take 2 people to remove it, one with a very long cheater bar or impact wrench, the other to hold the brakes. The chain apparently doesn't have a master link, but you can get the sprocket out if you slide the rear wheel forward to create some slack.
I wasn't sure how I was going to support the bike to replace the rear links, but I think I figured it out. The rear shock linkage has a pad built into it that you can place a jack under. This part of the linkage shouldn't be affected by the pull-rods.

A safer (for the tranny gears) way to loosten and tighten the sprocket nut is to put the tranny in neutral and use a block of wood thru the wheel either above or below the swingarm (depending which direction you are torquing) to hold it from turning. This puts zero load on any internal components and all of it on the chain and sprockets.
A wooden dowel 1-1/2" in dia about 12" long from home depot works well. Dont get pine.
I've heard horrer stories of impact wrenches breaking or cracking tranny gears. Its not the torque its the hammering effect of an impact gun.
I know many people use an impact and have never had a problem, but its just somthing to think about. Plus you dont need a 2nd person standing on the rear brake pedle.

You can hang the rear of bike from the ceiling if you've got some open rafters. I used some tie downs and a come-along to lift the rear by a loop passing through the passenger footpegs.
Had a front stand keeping er' steady.
Worked on the 12, that is. I'll need to get the same goodies you are mentioning soon (570 miles). Good luck - I want 9's also (but I needed a little N20 to get there w/my 12 at 5000' track). Suspect I'll need to do the same w/ the 'little' bike. Love this thing so far.
Giver'hell for the bunch of us!
