Adjustable ECU for the 10R

the mailman brought kawasaki's accessory catalog for the 10r in the mail today. very cool stuff...the adjustable ECU (to adjust fuel, ignition, and throttle bodies?!?!) looked very interesting...can anyone shed any light on what kind of performance can be squeezed out of the 10R with this ecu? have any of the pipe mfrs made use of this ecu and what appears to have a wider range of things to adjust than the powercommander?

Here's what the catalog states:

Adjustable ECU -- allows fine tuning of fuel, ignition and secondary throttle body operation -- (price is $1119.95 for the ECU!!!; ECU to PC/Laptop cord (necessary) is $599.95!!!)

they also have a head gasket ($89.95); catalog states that the gasket is .05mm thinner for higher compression

Hmm... I betcha that it's more than just a cable. Prolly a junction box with the embedded logic for reprogramming the ECU.

Race parts are priced like that for all the brands. Racers get them for a LOT less.

Yah, I helped Mike Velasco build a RC51...Seems like every part (cams, harnesses, FI, crank, etc. was a grand each. Oy year, almost forgot Ti valves, etc...

It's like having a set of carbs and a big box of jets. Great if you know what you're doing, worthless if you don't. It's mostly good for optimizing other modifications. On it's own it might be a few very expensive ponies.

It does fairly much in terms of performance. All stock bikes are running too lean of a mixture, to make sure the bikes comply with emissions regulations (hence the dip in torque around 5000 revs, which is fairly consistent on all bikes, as the emissions are usually measured at 5000 rpm).
If you change a full exhaust system to your bike, you usually need to do something to the fuel mixture. In carbs this means rejetting, with FI you usually have to do it by using either an adjustable ECU or an apparatus which alters the signal given by the ECU (eg. Power Commander, EMS, Rapid Bike, Motech, Techlusion). With some bikes changing a full exhaust system without adjusting the intake side of the engine, the fuel mixture can get dangerously lean, causing the engine to run way too hot. For example for the ZX-12R some kind of adjustment was required for the intake, when using a full exhaust system, to keep the warranty of the bike running.
Modern stock ECUs (for example the Mitsubishi unit used by Kawasaki and Suzuki) have some capability to adjust themselves in real time using the lambda-sensor of the bike. But usually this is not enough to keep the bike running with an optimal air-fluel mixture.
The good side of the Power Commander, when compared to some other FI adjusting units, is the popularity of it. Being so common, there's a helluva lot of ready maps for the PC, so pretty much anyone can find one that's suitable. Unless Kawasaki is testing and supplying ready maps for the Accessory ECU, it might take a little more work and time on the dyno, to get the bike running the best it can.

Not according to the people at Powercommander.............they tell me they are taking as much as 20% fuel outta most areas of the lateset liter bikes.!??!?!?!?!? otherwise they be come "sluggish" (Now ................... we do not need that)!!

And what does this mean???
