Rode Otto65's 10r today....

It reminds me of his ole 97 TL1000.
Theres not much in front of you. Seems like it will be a fun ride once its broken in. Not a lot of gyro from the wheels and engine. Feels like your steering it from the front axle. Brakes seem to have lots of power but it needs a good set of lines to firm them up. It feals like it all ready has HH pads. I dont know what kawi is shipping them with. But they seem good.
The bikes speedo seems to read high.(i'm sure its not) I was crusing at 60 at it felt like 40. The seat seems high, but maybe the bars are actually low. The slipper clutch is nice. You can feal it catch up with the engine as you slow down after droping 3 gears. Rear brake peddle seems low. Tranny is still tight, a little clunky at slow speeds (below 30)
Clutch cable blocks the tach below 4000, not a big deal. The suspension is quite stiff in the rear.
Lots of room to move around on the seat.

I think Kawi has a winner with this one.

SWFT, is yours broken in yet? I'm curious to see what you get for power on your dyno.

Hey Y2K - Yep, it's broken in. I'm not going to dyno it. I'm tired of all the pissing and moaning about how much horsepower this bike or that bike makes. I know that I like the way the 10R makes power, and it feels damn strong up on top. I know that doesn't answer your question, but I'm getting out of the horsepower wars for now.

SWFT>
I'm with you, dyno numbers are irrelevant to me. The bike is bought, title in hand, not going to eat a bullet because it makes two less HP that the mags say. The bike is fast as hell and handles like extremely well. 'm happy with mine so far. Hey did I show how my rims turned out?

Well, I got to run that little gem thru its paces for a bit this weekend.
Pretty impressive for 1000 cc. It feals like it accelerates very close to my 12r.
There was 3 of us... running up RT. 7 in CT. my 12r, my buddy otto on his little ninja, and another buddy on his 04 zrx. We swapped and i got on the zrex and checked to see if scotty broke it in right ... yep... its all broken in. That bike is comfy, roomy, strong, nimble, sexy, and cheep. Sounds like a bimbo in a dark hotel room, no? Its a nice bike. This year it got a nice polished stainless exhaust. Its silver. I thought it was great in the twisties. Otto on his zx10 was in front and I stuck with him while scottie was... well, behind some cars otto and I passed a while ago on my 12r.
After the boys made a coffee deposit on a road pull off, Otto and I switched bikes, so this time Otto (whos knee needed a brake from his 10r)was on the comfy bike (zrx) and scotty was still on my 12r.

So, I finally got to ride the 10r like it deserved to be ridden. I think scotty must have found the throttle finally cause he was sticking right on me most of the time, this time. Otto was back on the zrex relaxing, stretching, cursing the pegs on his 10r. (he is gonna try the Buell pegs)

I noticedthe 10r likes to lift the front wheel when hitting a bump in the road under full power up top. And thats with me (@200#) over the tank behind the screen. I let it blast up to 135 a few times thru the gears and then once to 155 (indicated). I did notice that as soon as you roll off the throttle it slows much faster (without brakes) than the 12r does. Its just one more place where less mass is nice. It makes 150+ mph much more accessable on alot more roads and places. One perticular blast up to 135 and then hard on the binders was impressive. Other than some initial softness to the lines it seems the new pad design and or radial mounting of the calipers really works well. I thought the bike was very smooth as far as the fuel injection and all.
The bike handles well but it should have come with a damper. It needs a damper coming out of a corner hot. I had a little twitch a few times but no tankslapper or anything. Otto has gotten it to get ornery on him a few times. But its not my bike so I dont want to push the issue. Besides I dont need another highside. They suck.
I think it could use some more HP thou. If it had about 170-175 hp it would be just perfect. 185 or 190 might be a little too much for the bike.
I like both the zrx and the 10r thou. Kawi has a couple of nice 04 rides this year.

My speedo reads 3.5 mph high at 60mph[63 indicated is 60mph true].
My tach reads 250-300rpm high[optomistic] at 4000.[60mph true reads 4300;calculated is 3940].
It seems to be constant at 120mph[3mph/300rpm]
I have not checked it at 180,it's just broken in.
A 37 rear fixed the speedo.
Anyboby know how to calibrate tachs?Or where to send it?

Well, otto65's arata pipe and pc-III are on. I got some seat time on it with the new configuration.
The bike seems to run much smoother between 5000-7000 rpm now. It pulls harder all the way to redline now also.
The weight savings is about 4 lbs.

To get the best drive out of a corner its gotta be above 8000 close to 9000. Below that and otto65 (on my 12r) would pull away from me on corner exits. I had a hard time keeping the front down to finish the corner trying to catch him.

They seem to be matched closer on power to weight ratio now.
