poke a hole

A fork tube through the cat is kinda free. Anybody done that yet?

Hey guys. I'm a new poster here. Been a lurker for a while. I went for the Blue two weeks ago. Got 800+ miles on it so far. I took a hole saw to the cat this past weekend. Rain kept me from straping on the ol butt dyno. This Sunday I'll turn it loose. I'v got a buddie w/04 r1 who is dying to see how they compare. Hopefully a stock 10 will around to see what difference the gutted cat makes.

You mean pneumatic springs?

Instead of a valve spring, you have a pneumatic cylinder that acts as a spring.

The air spring has no coil bind, so lift can be much greater. Also, the resonant frequency is much, much higher than a steel spring, so your valvetrain won't go into resonance until about 50,000 rpm. Finally, the air pressure can be adjusted to suit the rpm, so you won't have as much frictional loss at low rpm.

ZXHoya, thanks, but Doug M. has much more expierience with all types of motorcycles and airplanes etc. than myself. I wouldnt doubt with cars too but he doesnt talk much about that arena.
I just like to know why somthing is the way it is and why it isnt the way it isnt. Does that make sence?

D, I havent seen cam specs yet for the 10r. I would imagine they are in the manual like the zx12r's are.

Anyone care to look it up in their manual? Thanks

Yea varriable cam timing and or pneumatic valve actuation would be the next logical step in performane from the factories. I believe the Honda VFR shuts off a valve with a pin that releases one valve from actuating, thus increasing the velocity in the half of the port that the valve is still opening, no? But a true varriable cam timing setup would be nice.

Miykl, If you have a buddy with a stock can go dyno your bike and bring his stock can, then swap the cans on the dyno. I'd be interested to see what you get. !!

Formula one seems to be where the newest stuff is run first. I guess they have the biggest budgets. ?

If they can get the cost down on the valve actuation setups from F1 then maybe you'll see it on bikes before cars. Maybe someone has it on a car by now?

Na. Thought about it a few years ago. I just didnt think the engine would bennifit from it in this application. The exhaust ports flow good. With a little (very little) work they are awsome. The problem with the Bussa is its cams are small. So thats why yosh cams have a bigger increase over stock than bigger cams in a 12r. The bigger cams for the 12r just arnt that much bigger than stock. Not for a street grind anyway. I guess some nasty peaky fat lobe cams for drag racing would be another story.

Its all good.
