quote: So here's what I want to know.. do people want me to "pick the pipe apart" from a "bling bling" standpoint or do you guys want an opinion on general fit and finsh? Tell me, cuz I dont look at perfomance systems from a bling perspective..
..its been almost a month since this was discussed, but I think it applies today as well due to the recent post about Ti welds...please excuse me for bringing this thread back up...
...but 'bling', as you call it (I prefer asthetics), is a crucial and an elemental part of motorcycle design because the very machine and most of its external components are 'out there' for all the world to see...performance system or not, just about every thing on a motorcycle can be seen RIGHT NOW whether its parked or moving at speed...
...I think the 'works-look' works for a very small target group on the fringe...the majority of consumers who pay a substantial amount for product want something that looks 'finished' and probably care less about ultimate hp/tq gains or possibly more strength and function and are instead more interested in ultimate 'curb appeal'...a balance of the two would be the ultimate goal for the designers and the consumers...

To all- Based on your feed back we now offer the slip on with no welds and also polished. The Tapered Titanium remains the same. Available mufflers for both types are, Oval polished SS, Oval Titanium, and Oval Carbon Fiber.

Dude, buy a 10R and you're prequalified for fringe status. The welds are fine, what concerns me is the clamp at the can/midpipe junction. One loose nut on the bike is enough Why not springs? Also, my boot heel is all over the stock midpipe. Are any of you aftermarket guys going to address that issue? Function over form, remember.

The pinch bolt design has been around forever. My son uses it on his systems. He uses what we call a "centerlock locknut". When it's tightened, it's the last thing that will come loose on the bike... This design essentially assures no exhaust leaks, as springs can potentially have without silcone seal. It can also allow a little more heel room by not having springs in the way.

When has ANYONE ever heard of ANY make of exhaust pipe that had a weld failure ? You people that are crying about the Muzzy's welds , you think the welds are faulty and will fall apart ? You people will bitch about anything . The welds are fine and look great .
Since my first ever Muzzy's purchase I have had nothing but great results . The fit and finish are always top shelf . The super deep sound again top shelf . The performance , lets see anyone say anything bad about a Muzzy's in performance . Muzzy's is ALWAYS at the top of the list on HP and TQE .
My Muzzy's SS with the round aluminum can has the small bolt that holds the can on . Since 1998 on my 9R , I have had ZERO problems with the can falling off or anything else . I personally thing the spring effect looks gheeeto faboolious .
My SS and alu can on my 1985 Ninja is still perfect . Welds are still beautiful . Ultra deep sound to go with the welds .
My full Ti Muzzy's pipe is still top shelf on my 12R .
And the biggest reason to buy the Muzzy's pipe is that Rob Muzzy is an American . He owns an American company . His company is in America . He employes Americans . I hope this strikes home to you people . Guess you would have to serve your country to see this . There goes my patriotic pride again .
The next time you bitches are looking for a job , you can personally think people like Rob Muzzy . He helps keep jobs in America . Now where is my medication ???

...a lot of the buying enthusiasts don't have the welding experience or expertise to appreciate what/how/why welds are the way they are...they just know that welds hold things together and sometimes welds break...I bet tons of us here have seen at least one weld break in their lifetime...
...I go back to asthetics...the motorcycle is very much an asthetic device and often times our choices come down to personal asthetic appeal, performance and ergonomics aside...essentially, the bike and stuff on it matters to most...its just gotta 'look good'...
...those who don't uderstand the mechanics of a weld and the different types of materials being welded are not going to appreciate certain 'works-type' asthetics no matter how you explain it to them...the perceived value of the item they just paid for also has alot to do with the quality of its finish..."smooth=quality" or something like that...

...I bet the average-joe-street-rider will look at a 'works' bike, look at some of the 'works' components, look at the thin and light body work, look at what it cost$$$$$!!!, and wonder why it costs so damn much for something that looks somewhat 'unfinished'...then he'll go over to his $12,000 10R, ride it, and feel good that he only spent $12,000 for his 'finished-looking' product...even though the paid racer on his 'unfinished' works-bike will kick his pretentious ass anytime, anyplace...
...especially if the racer is Yates...be careful of that guy ....

wow, now that's responding to customer input! very cool move IMHO Mr Muzzys. as much as i appreciate the Muzzys mantra of performance over all else, wormy is quite right about the importance bikers put on aesthetics (well, except me obviosuly )

I'm confused. Mr. Muzzy says one thing on the board and Curt Dorn, a muzzys sales rep at muzzys says something different. I guess I'll call in the morning to see if I can clear things up.

I am a little confused, is it now offered with the older style welds in addition to the:
Either no welds at all
or
Polished welds?
I am a little confused, is this 3 options -
1. Standard welds
2. No welds
3. Polished welds
Also, how does one order this from the dealer?
Thanks,
Rich

I just got my muzzy slip-on today. Once I opened the box I could see how some people might be offended by the welds. So what I did is start my buffing machine and ran around the welds with tripoli compond. It took about 10 min for each section and most of the blueing was gone. Still has the works look though, but the welds do not catch the eye first before the awsome slip-on glares first. I am now more stisified with the welds now than with the non welds of the stock mid section. If you don't have a buffing machine I am sure you can get away with it on a dremel.

I just installed my Muzzy titanium slip-on a couple of days ago. I have to admit, I thought the pics on the net made the welds look pretty shitty. But now that I have mine installed I don't think they look that bad.

Also, when I 1st put the pipe on it seemed so quiet. But after riding it a little while it has opened up and sounds real good.

You guys go on about the welds, what about the mounting hardware? I saw one close up the other day. No thanks.

Here is what my welds look like after I polished them. I mentioned this earlier in the thread.
