If it make ya feel any better...Last year I built my 1k, after many delays from aftermarket vendors etc 10 months later all happy and giddy brand new rear tire and i drive 10 miles to work and pick up a nail in the sidewall buy another tire, rains all week, go out finally and ride and pickup another nail. Buy another tire and that one lasted 2 weeks until I picked up a staple. 3 tires in a month $500 sucked!

So, skully, can I have that original tire? And anyone else here that have less than 500 miles on a tire, I'll dispose of them for you.

skullyeb> The topic was about to finding you had a flat tyre one day after riding and only had low number of miles on it and how upset you were about this happening and for that I can sympathize.

I had a similar situation to yours, with exception that it happened to my CBR900RR back in '96. I mentioned plugging the tyre, because I did and had not problems with the repair as a matter of fact I pulled to tyre early because I upgraded compounds and gave it to a friend of mine Juan because the had chords showing through this tyre. He did burn outs wheelies and raced on the tyre, he even wasted it in form of another partners house because his new tyre arrived.

Now I understand fully that people do things differently everywhere you go and that is just how people are. But to evade the original topic and referring to a puncture in the sidewall shows a lack of confidence in what you are discussing, but like I said, people do things differently everywhere you go. You never mentioned where the puncture was in the tyre, so we'll assume it was on the riding surface or you most certainly would have noticed much sooner and possibly not made it back from your ride on two wheels. ANd no, I would not have repaired a sidewall puncture, because of the loads placed on the tyre could have catastrophic consequences. I am glad you made it home safely and hope it doesn't happen to you again.

I don't have a Porsche, wish I could bring myself to buy one, but not enough there for the money I'm afraid. No offense to the Porsche owners out there, just not my cup of tea, but then again, neither and cruisers.

Anyway, you never answered me back about sending me your tyre. You are going to toss it aren't you? Let me know how much shipping is...

Peace,
Johnny

Sorry about your luck!.... but hey sounds like you got it back on the road... just a little lighter in the wallet.

On the other hand i am going to agree with Freek on this one. I have Patched 4 tires in my riding career. I rode everyone to the cords with no leaks. although it was Not plugged, It was PATCHED there is a big difference. A patch is a round rubber piece with a rubber plug attatched to it done from the INSIDE. the rubber plug part is pushed through the hole and the patch is rubber cemented on the inside still connected to the plug.

I also have seen NO EVIDENCE EVER EVER EVER that points to a Patch failing. EVER..... don't you think there would be stories out there? We are on the internet and all of us have seen this discussion countless times with thousands of people.... AND not ONE person has ever spoken up and said yeah my tire totally exploded and i crashed because the patch failed. Whats the worst that could happen? It might leak!... Now by no means am i saying it would be OK to go 180mph+ on a patched tire. But riding twisties and a couple fast breaks to 150+ have never been a problem for me on a patched tire.

I guess my life is only worth 150 bucks :

Manufacturers dont want the liability of saying a plug/patch is ok. And they are in the business of selling tires. Makes their opinion a biased one at best.

I picked up a big-ass screw on my way home from SBNW. I put a plug in it right there off the side of the road. This was a brand new tire before the trip, and I didn't feel like tossing it. I kept telling myself I'd change it but I used it to the very end. No problems.
