AFAM 525 replacement sprockets.....
For anyone interested in doing a final drive gear change now or in the future here's the AFAM listings for the 10r.
AFAM 525 countershaft sprocket part # 28401 + # of teeth ( same as the 96-99 zx750r/rr)
AFAM 525 rear allow sprocket part # 17610h + # of teeth (same as 98-99 zx6r)
I also believe they have 520 setups but i'm not sure of the part #'s.

I've been a proponent of 520 conversions on numerous bikes for a few years now but i'm not so sure i'll venture that way this time as the performance of this bike is a step above in terms of HP / Torque therefore even the 520 DID erv2 may fade a little quicker than in my past experiences.

actually bd I can launch this bike a little better right now cause its taller in first than my gixxer. Easier to keep the tire down and throttle pinned staying over the front. I thought it would be the other way around but it is not.

Im sure a stock motor'ed 10 is not gonna wreak havoc on a 520 chain.
Zhooligans bike ran a 520 and it made 250+ hp at the tire.

um... ok. Can someone please give me a quick explanation of chain numbers and what they actually mean? Take a 525/110 chain for example. 525 is the pitch, and 110 is the length, right? What units of measurement are used for those? I've also heard some people talk about tensile strength. Is this something you get to specify as well? Basically, how many variables are there when ordering a chain, and what units of measurement are used to define them?

The Kawi racing teams are having problems with the 520's. The rear sprockets are getting chewed up quite badly during longer races. It does not seem to be a power issue though.

Sounds like aluminium isn't strong enough to handle it.

There is a plug under the left lower. I can mod your YB harness to plug right in.

Ok give this a read........
The first digit in the chain size is the pitch or pin-to-pin distance in eights of an inch. The 525 chain on the pre-2003 models and the 520 chain on the 2003 model share a pitch of 5/8 in. As a result, at 108 links each they have the same length.
The second and third digits are for roller width in eightieths of an inch. The 525 chain on the older models has a width of 25/80 or 5/16 in. The 520 chain on the new model has a width of 20/80 or 1/4 in. As a result, the chain and sprockets on the older models are wider than their new counterparts. Although the gearing and chain length is unchanged, the old sprockets do not fit the new chain.

a couple of points about gearing and chains:
1. Ask yourself why you would like to gear (down) a bike. If it is for stunting, fine. But if you are thinking that it will increase a bike's rate of acceleration, it only happens in 1st gear.
2. Manufacturer's advertised tensile strengths are done with sales in mind. I have yet to see independent engineering tests (as is done on commericial chains), and the numbers are not stated as max., min., or average values. There is a substantial difference. From my experience I have found that big bore bikes make short work of 520 chains, especially when stunting. Use at least a 525, high end chain.
