Could someone check theirs for this noise?

I have about 270 miles on my ZX and I noticed a strange noise today.

When I rev it to 4,000 rpm, then let off, it rattles on decel.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks,
Mike

I doubt it. The noise is coming from up front.

OK, keeping on topic. . . the engine was at ~210 deg when it did this. Maybe that was a contributing factor?

Mine does it also. But I think it is the exhaust valve. It sounds sorta like a fluttering/rattle sound as the rpms drop for the next gear. It does it at any temp. On my bike it only does it when shifting at 4000 rpm. No fluttering sound if I shift above 5000 rpm or below 3500 rpm.

Hey Mike, I have the same exact issue and I took it to the dealer and they didnt seem to concerned even after the mechanic rode the bike. Its for sure a noise coming from the valve train area but I am not sure on the exacts. Its strange because sometimes it makes the noise and sometimes it wont. Its kinda odd but the power is still consistant and it seems to run fine. It sounds like we both have the exact same issue. I cant hear it at idle but when i rev it to about 4 it makes a slight "tick" noise, its not real loud but its enough noise to make me raise an eyebrow. Keep me informed on your findings.

I have been searching this forum for info.

We recently stripped down a ZX10r because of engine noise that happened above 4k and as mentioned above is prominent on the over run. Sounds like a real nasty camchain but the noise is further back. We beleive it to be the Alternator and have confirmed it by removing the alternator and running the bike. The noise disappears.

Everything looks clean on the bike. When the engine was strripped we were frustrated to see everything looked OK. Includig the big end shells. I say frustrating becasue there wasnt an obvious problem. Built it back up again with new stretch bolts and the noise was still there. We have heard of Dealers in the UK shimming up the alternators so we are going to give that a go.

If anyone else has info on this please post here. I will let you know how the engine sounds when the alternator is shimmed up.

They all do this. The engine temp has a lot to do with it as you noticed. Let it cool down and check again it will be quiet. It's just the way the 10R is. In fact the engine is so loud that's the main reason it has a rubber matt that completely covers the motor up top. It has NOTHING to do with heat as many people think. It's there to try and hide some of the noise. Don't worry about it. It has to be a clearence issue that opens up when the motor is hot. Kawasaki don't seem to worry about it.
