Bikes in but how long for the prep? My faster green 10R is in stock! I got a call from the dealer today. He said they were unloading it from the truck as we spoke. He said they would have it out of the crate tomorrow morning
He said they needed to prep it. I thought that was to attach the windshield, tighten some bolts & fill the oil. What else is involved.
Anyway, he said they also need to get some gas in it which involves taking it for a test drive to make sure it doesnt fall apart. I am guessing that its gonna be the harshest miles that bike will see in the first 1000 (by the head mechanic).
So, if it stops raining, I can pick it up Friday. Or if not, then Tuesday. waaa. a whole week.

OH, now I forget. He said I couldnt have it quite yet because the paperwork didnt get there from Kawasaki. Apparently they got a few bikes & cant sell them yet becasue they are waiting on teh paper work.
Is that usually true? I would think the truck driver has the papers but maybe its the mailman?

The prep document is 22 pages long.. mostly obvious stuff, but if the dealer actually checks all of the torques they are told to, it could take a while.

oh, ok i kinda figured that they were just trying to keep my 10R in stock for people to sit on (used as a selling tool). He said it might take a day or so to get the bike through prep, so i suppose that could happen.

Or he might be waiting on the COA (certificate of origin) Title Document that sometimes follows. Tho with a 30 day tag he could still release it to you. Like you said he probably want to showcase it for a day or so (can't blame him as nice as they are). Patience Grasshopper . . .

I would imagine that's exactly what Michael stated..The COA...The drivers never have it with them and it usually takes another day to get it if the shipment came in that afternoon...
The dealer prep is very simple..The bike comes pretty much complete..Usually maybe the windscreen and the mirrors...
I had my bran new CR250R sent to me in the crate and all I had to do is put on the handlebar, handlebar levers, and the front wheel...Took about 15 minutes...
Streetbikes come nearly complete in the crate...
I've heard several "salesmen" tell customers the reason why they are being charged $300 for the prep fee is because they have to put the ENTIRE bike together and grease bearings and so forth...Pretty much all bullshit to justify the $300 expense...
Really, if you calculate the amount of time it takes to "put it together" and add oil you get a much lower price....At a rate of $30 per hour (takes a maximum of 30 minutes) and the cost of oil it should cost you no more than $35 to $40...Which, I might add is PAID to the dealer BY the manufacturer to cover the costs of setting up the bike (time for labor and oil).

I spoke to him today & he said it was preped, ready, and registered. Now if I could only get to the dealer tomorrow instead of Friday....
Oh well..

I do! Heres the forecast for tomorrow:
Tomorrow: Cloudy with periods of rain. High 46F. Winds ENE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Rainfall may reach one inch.
Tomorrow night: Considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers. Low 39F. Winds ENE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%. Rainfall near a half an inch.
I cant get any pickup truck assistance until Friday.
Either way, 1.5 inches of rain in one day is to much rain for those new tires.

Yeah, but perfect break-in conditions, the temps will be down, you will be varying your throttle to avoid the high winds and puddles in the road
Just messing with you man, but believe me if I knew it was down there waiting for me....I'd be there when they open!!

My bud who pointed me to bikeland.org works at dealership building Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda. He said the Kawasaki has a label posted saying: "Don't add oil". Kawasaki is also the only one that comes with tires in spec, air pressure. He had to uncrate mine, then add the windscreen and I think the mirrors too. Battery is ready I think, just needs hooking up. He said the ZX-10R is not bad to set up, just a few pages of checks to do and your done except for the test ride.
BTW, his thought on the test ride is slowly go up the road never passing 4000rpm and shift thru the gears a few times then bring it back. He adds about 1 mile to every bike. Said he never abuses the bike because it's not his and thinks dealership that allows there ppl to do so will never sell a bike to him. I thought that was kewl

I also had a good friend point out that this was one of the few bikes he knew that came with the oil from the factory. Congrats

MY local dealer got the green one they were originally supposed to get, so they have one sitting on the floor now.
