Rodney Dangerfield and my ZX10

I picked up my blue ZX10 on Wednesday 3/24 and bribed a friend to accompany me during my first break-in ride by letting him ride my R1. After 120 miles, we stopped at an open air biker bar to get a Sprite (honest). There was only 1 bike there. A Kawasaki Mean Streak. As soon as we got our helmets off, the other rider came up and said "Wow, nice bike. What year is that R1?" ('98 by the way.) Then he ranted on about what a kick-ass bike the R1 is. Etc, etc.

The next night, I went with a husband and wife. She rides a Kawasaki Drifter and he has a green Kawasaki ZRX1100 that is pretty ragged. It is a '99 model that has been parked outside all of it's life with virtually no effort to clean it up since he doesn't want people to think his bike is a garage queen. We stop to get a burger and some girls at the burger joint walk up and ask us if we own the Ninja's parked outside. Before I can answer she says she really likes the green one.

Today, I have another friend with me on the R1 and when we stop at a gas station, someone comes over to talk and spends 10 minutes talking about the R1 and how great R1's are.

Me and Rodney Dangerfield.

My experiences were a little different today:

Local speed shop:

Counter person spies the bike parked out front and runs outside, leaving me and another customer in the store alone as he ogles the bike. After peppering me with questions and comments on the bike, he goes back in, at which time the owner comes out and ogles the bike for awhile. Meanwhile, a GSXR 1k guy pulls up, looks over at you can see the green eyed monster rear up... But hey, it's all good!

My experiences are more like Swft's. THe guy at Cycle Gear had to run out and look, the guys at Helmet Harbor, Pipe City, the Honda/Suz/Yam dealer (Champion) down the street, the Harley riders I pass, everyone looks.

I passed another black 10R on the Bush Hwy yesterday, just south of Lake Saguaro. We both did doubletakes.
