Canceled Order For 1000RR, Gettin' a ZX10R

Well, after reviewing tons of writeups, etc. I've cancelled the order for my black 1000RR. This long-time honda customer is no more. Honda chose to build the slowest of all liter bikes, including the 3 year old Suzuki, and Kawi chose to build the fastest (both in a straight line and around a race track). Sorry Honda, your motto should be 'Performance Last' not 'Performance First'.

Regarding the ZX10R, I'm only worried about a few things: 1) Overly tall 1st gear 2) Thin plastic that flaps in the wind. 3) Hard to read Tach. 4) Notchy transmission. Can anybody who has a ZX10R help alleviate my fears on these issues?

Kerry,

Next time you see the Honda boys tell 'em they screwed up and are losing loyal-customer sales as a result. Tell them to buy a ZX10R engine and study it real hard so they can get it right the next time. By the way, I don't like the angled pipe look of Jardine's slip on 1000RR muffler. Had I stuck with the RR I probably wouldn't have bought that pipe cause of the angled look. Just some constructive feedback.

Here's my 2 cents (understand that I have only gone 50 miles on my 10r due to rain and snow and that during the 50 mile trip i did not go over 4000 rpm or exceed 60mph b/c i am trying to break it in by the book...for now at least):

1) tall first gear is not a problem...just needs a little more gas and clutch to take off...not an issue at all in my mind

2) doesn't flap at 60mph

3) easier to read (and better) than i thought it would be...but not as good as an analog tach for a quick glance at your rpm

4) tranny is butter...nice and smooth...better than my 01 gixxer 1K...but i don't do clutchless shifts either

now for some stuff you didn't ask about: the handle bars seem to carry SLIGHTLY more vibration than my gixxer 1K and the brakes feel soft to me but i'll give those more time.

handling and stability are incredible...the 10r is more stable in the corners than my gixxer...turns much easier and faster...very light...makes my gixxer feel like a boat in comparison. hope this helps. i am INCREDIBLY HAPPY with my purchase, the 10r is exactly what i was looking for...gixxer power in a smaller, lighter, better handling package.

Blade!

You should not have any concerns with those three things! I have 500 miles on my 10r and have not expierenced anything! AWESOME tranny!

By the way I saw the new CBR 1000 today and it SUCKS!

VERY uncomfortable!
Cheesy instruments!
does sit about a half an inch lower,
but I was expecting something radically new and WAS NOT IMPRESSED!
ANd whust up with the rear brake master cylinder mounted on top of the foot peg ?
Pretty much JUST ANOTHER HONDA!

You have made a WISE DECISION my friend!

Roy

Some bikes are engineered to "not" need dampers...page 30 March 2004 Fast Bikes magazine.

blade954 - I'll let you tell them. My dealings are strickly with the raceteam.
Angle on the exhaust, your opinion is appreciated, everyone has one, good, bad, indifferent. Thanx for it all the same.

Performance wise - The magazines ride them to the infinite degree. If you're one of them that also rides to that degree, then the 10 may be the best for you. For myself, I go really well on all 4 of them. And the differences are very minor when ridden hard. If you get to ride all 4 of them, you'll see that. Choose whatever makes you happy. After all, it's your money. But you surely can't pick wrong.

Just put 200 miles on my 10R, picked it up yesterday (Blue)

-First to me feels great
-Have only been around 70ish due to break in but no problem with plastics or overall quality / fit and finish
-Getting use to the tach still, but with the shift light who cares . . .
-I have had a few Kaws (7 & 9), transmission is no louder . . . smooth shifing
-Just look at the Dyno figures !!!!

Tho it is still early I feel like it is going to be an awsome machine. I dont think you will be at all disappointed.

The Blue 10R's were produced on Wednesdays . . .
