Almost time fer shields up? Help us pick a date!

As most members know, the site is blocked to lurkers. We have allowed the 10R portion of the site to stay open as the 10R had not yet been released. How much longer would people here like to keep it open to the public?

Give me a time frame as we will block lurkers/non-members eventually.

Thanks

Fish, I'm asking this question out of naive-ness, not sarcasm so please accept it as that. What is the purpose (or benefits) of blocking it?

thanks, Dan

Blocking the site allows the members to post knowing that the information they post and community they participate in has some level of control. They know that only their friends are reading and participating, and that if there are any problems, the administration knows who is invovled and how to get a hold of them.

It also helps prevent programmers from "skimming" or "roboting" the information contained within the site, and having what you have written here show up elsewhere on the 'net.

We found that it had a great benefit to the site and the content in general when we closed it years back.. We have had many polls amongst the membership and all have been overwhelmingly in fabour of keeping bikeland.org a closed community.

People need to understand that lurkers can still lurk, they simply need to activate an account and supply a valid email. There is no charge and the information is kept private. Not a big deal really.

So, if I dont get my 10r for a few months does this mean I will no longer be able to access this site? I would hate for that to happen as I enjoy it so much!
